  • Fastest way to Civ4

I want to be the first person on 'Poly to get Civ4.

Should I pre-order or skip work and drive into the city?

Are these my only two options or am I missing something important?

Embarking on a life of crime is not out of the question if it is faster, but I do not really want to have police interupt my first game.

Being employed by a store that sells it on release day is the fastest way.

other than that, usually driving to the store beats getting it shipped, unless the UPS/FEDEX dude comes really early in the morning. You will probably get it even faster if you fedex it "next day", though paying 2x as much for a game just to get it a day early is not worth it, IMO at least.

Good idea Matt. If I work at the store I still can't play it until I get home that afternoon, so the plan is to quite that morning after buying it (with my employee discount.)

i was more thinking along the lines of "getting" it the day before, or as soon as the shipment comes in...

You know.. volunteer to do inventory that day

considering certain Firaxis developers are on Poly occasionally, I don't think its possible.

Excluding them, I think your best bet is to kidnap someone important.

Not that I'm Endorsing that. I'm already afraid of the Canadian government and the Pope coming after me for legal reasons.

Quitting your job for a game?

Besides, if cIV is released wordwide on the same day, all the other continents have first purchasing choice.

One night? I think you need 3 to be sure.

First game of Civ4 will take 3 days, sooo... .

For you guys in civilized countries, the fastest way is probably to get to the game store as soon as it opens in the morning.

I guess you could take a look to download it before it is released (if available). Make your thoughts about the game already (but don't publish them or otherwise people will know that you are a softwarepirate) and then on release day delete everything, destroy the CD, go to the store and buy it.

Or you apply for a job at Firaxis

If there is a game that you can be sure will be worth it before buying, that's Civ4. Even if you don't like it, the amount of time spent to discover that will be longer than the time spent playing many other games .

It's probably the opposite of Tassi's "Cult of Personality."
