As for the capital lost to the AI or another player, well if you're that dumb to leave your capital so unguarded or the opposition is that smart, it's okay by me.

      Thanks for the welcome, Sabre2th.

New guy gone? No. Just have better things to do than check this board for...what? All of 3 whole days.

So the maritime trait is in Conquests. I guess I haven't played any of those cultures yet. I play "random", except when I bring out my favs, the Persians.

I see I've missed entire discussions on Civil Wars. That's fine. It was an interesting thought, and I'd love to have *friendly* discussions on it elsewhere.

Like I said: I didn't read the entire board. I did scroll down for the past several pages of topics before posting this. I didn't see any of those things I mentioned. I guess I'm in the wrong place for friendly discussion on a game I like spending a few hours on.

        Sorry to see you go.

You know, it is possible to put people on your Ignore Lists so that you won't have to read any of Kuciwalker's inanities. (not that everything he says is inane- but everything he's said in this thread is.)

another civ site: www.civfanatics.com (not as recommended as this one though)

On another subject- Skywalker- see now why we don't have many newbies- look at the registration dates of people posting in all these threads- disgusting isn't it. I suppose we're all being too cliquish.

Speaking of that- I'll address you by your more recent name- Kucinich- *#*( now it's Kuciwalker, isn't it.

Frankly, I don't know how anyone understands half the things we are discussing anyways.

Oh, I'll throw in some more: area 24, banana, black saturday, DL dance, etc.

          Lloyd,

There is no need to take insults of some forum members personally, most of the time this really is a pretty friendly place to discuss Civ. Sure, people disagree with each other, but it usually is with friendly discussions and without bigotry from people who think they're better than others or that new people are bad.

            CIVIL WARS
"Mal nommer les choses, c'est accroître le malheur du monde" - Camus (thanks Davout)

"I thought you must be dead ..." he said simply. "So did I for a while," said Ford, "and then I decided I was a lemon for a couple of weeks. A kept myself amused all that time jumping in and out of a gin and tonic."

Lloydbrown: I hope you didn't take anything I said as an attack. They were all good ideas. That's why they made it into Conquests. I just wanted to let you know is all.

So, don't be scared off by a few negative comments. And Kuciwalker isn't always that cranky.

Poly is quite a closely knit community... hell, even subparts of the forum are nearly separate communities. With all the stuff being discussed it's easy to be overwhelmed at all the available data.

I had made a 'pause' of nearly a year until I started playing Civ3 again and coming to poly regularly - It took me about a month to get acquainted with eyerybody again and find my way around all that has been going on...

Concering civil wars: I think it's still a nice concept, but I agree with the fact that it can be quite frustrating. I would propose something along the line of negociations: when a civil war is imminent, you get a chance to negotiate with the rebellion and maybe work out a deal to make them happy again and not revolt.

I'm thinking of something like the current diplomacy screen, except you're talking to the rebellion leader wo states his terms and you can make proposals.

Example: the rebellion wants more happiness ( 'The people are unhappy about the current state of the empire. They want to be happier'), and you could make deals like 'We could offer to spend more money on entertainment' (luxury slider at +10% for 20 turns)...

That way you could still tell them to go to hell, but have a way to apease them too without giving up too much of your resources.

P.S. @Lloydbrown: feel free to extrapolate

Hehe, evil frenchie. If you can have a diplo contact with 'unionists', what prevents a foreing power doing that too and break half of your country faster than a french surrender!?
                      Owww, I'm so cute! ^_^

Now that's a nice concept It would be quite a complex system, but it could be quite fun... Imagine America on the brink of civil war - it's quite realistic that many countries would try to influence the 'unionists' as you call them to make it happen. On the other hand, you could have allies standing at your side, actually very cold war-like

But I guess that kind of diplomacy system could be a game of its own... If I remember correctly, there is a game from Stardock that does something similar, THe Political Machine.

I played the Dutch (Seafaring/Agricultural) to some success in Conquests But the Persians are a favourite of mine as well, as are the Babylonians.
