Have you checked the credits in C3C? The nicknames were included there.

Just checked for C3C, there was Vondrack, Dominae, Trip, Godking, MZ....lost count towards the end

Put another way, out of all of the teams in the PTWDG, (atleast) all but one of the poly teams had a member who beta tested C3C. That could easily translate to a similar amount betatesting CIV.

          Spelled my name wrong though.

Won't be spelled wrong this time around though, I'll make sure if that.

Are there any SMACers beta-testing Civ4?

Trip is a budding programmer. Maybe he will be the lead programmer on a future release of Civ

Maybe, but if the SDK allows great modifications, then we could have a "Civ5" made by fans before Firaxis does another one. Which would not be bad at all.

Originally posted by Locutus Secondly, there have been fan-made Star Trek, Star Wars, Buffy, etc films, books, games and stuff like that for decades, yet that never kept the official sources from releasing new official materials as well.
Hm, here the analogy doesn't work, because you don't see George Lucas saying to a bunch of Star Wars fans: "here, boys, these are the Industrial Light and Magic studios, and here is Harrison Ford and Mark Hammill - now go ahead and do your own Star Wars movie with them!"

Originally posted by Locutus Finally, as cool as the Civ4 graphics and network options look now, 4-5 years from now they will be painfully obsolete. The SDK will only contain the game rules, not the engine that makes these rules run.
                  You have almost convinced me.

                  Ok, I'm convinced.

Or just look at Half-Life. Its SDK contained all the game code, except the engine. In the result, there were hundreds of fan-based mods, including Counter-Strike, and in the result, Half-Life still sells copies and is a tremedeous success. And, that SDK and those modding capabilities didn't prevent Valve from release Half-Life 2, which is, in turn, another great industry success.
