Yes. The thought of a catapult having any use in a field campaign is beyond me. Just make artillery units give either a field or siege bonus (or both) to a formation. Later, make planes independant units that can target infrastructure. Just my two cents.
We get your point, but infantry entrenched in ruins can be quite lethal.

just as strafing or dropping a "Carpet bombing" campaign from above has its place and effective implementation, indeed Oncle Boris Infantry are a vital and necessary element of a combined attack

SIEGE equipment are one thing as in to lay "siege" to something
Artillery would be a more modern effective attack where as you could do more damage from afar
