I don't post here very often, but I have followed some of the ideas and wishful thinking that the list you have prepared include. I think it is an excellent work that you have done, and I hope that Firaxis does take many of these great ideas into consideration and production. Thank you for the gigantic list of ideas and variations, even if they aren't implemented in cIV, they are interesting food for thought, none-the-less.Before Enlightenment: Chop Wood, Carry Water.
After Enlightenment: Chop Wood, Carry Water.

Thanks for the honorable mention, DC.
I never touched on this before, but the reason for my sudden absence back then in December of 2003 was sudden death in the very close family. Apolyton and the list seemed quite unimportant then. Thanks for taking over the reins, and for doing such a nice job of it.
AsmodeanIm not sure what Baruk Khazad is , but if they speak Judeo-Dwarvish, that would be "blessed are the dwarves" - lord of the mark

DarkCloud, I commend you on your fantastic work on the list. It is an amazing collobaration on your part.
I also thank all the threadmasters who helped put effort and work into the listl ... with special emphasis on that thanks to Nikolai for all the various work he did.
I remember it was roughly a year ago, maybe less or more, when Soren took a copy of the list; I can only hope he took many ideas from the list and he has once again come back to download newer and finalized versions to help aid in the creation of Civ4.
EDIT: and I see a Yin siting in this thread; how nice. I always thought his/your comments were of great value in the months leading up to and shortly after Civ3.However, it is difficult to believe that 2 times 2 does not equal 4; does that make it true? On the other hand, is it really so difficult simply to accept everything that one has been brought up on and that has gradually struck deep roots – what is considered truth in the circle of moreover, really comforts and elevates man? Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.

Great work on the list. I think it could've been further broken down though. The reason is that I highly doubt Soren or anyone at Firaxis will read the entire 166 pages, rather, Soren or the producer would give out pieces of the list to section heads (like the lead in AI, or the lead in Graphics, etc).

I'll admit that it would have been good, if the list had been pared down some more, but that was the idea of the subject headings- if the developers read a heading and wanted to read more on the topic, they could- if not, then they could skip over it.-->Visit CGN!

well, i know where the next few days of my life are going...good work DC"Mal nommer les choses, c'est accroître le malheur du monde" - Camus (thanks Davout)
"I thought you must be dead ..." he said simply. "So did I for a while," said Ford, "and then I decided I was a lemon for a couple of weeks. A kept myself amused all that time jumping in and out of a gin and tonic."

TechWins: Thanks. In retrospect, I think something more like what came a bit later with the Top 10 lists would have proved better from the start (more focus for Firaxis, etc.). Soren seems to have his head in the game, though, so this iteration might yet get me back and posting!I've been on these boards for a long time and I still don't know what to think when it comes to you -- FrantzX, December 21, 2001

Solver: Wow, that would be a *really* slow news day.
DarkCloud: Thanks. Of course, I can't take any credit for being creative. After I helped to release the last list, a group (I can't remember who ran it) staged a big vote for each section of the list and came up with a Top 10. I suspect had we done that earlier, Firaxis might have had a better chance of knowing what we find most important. At the end of the day, though, they also want the game to appeal to newbies, too, and not just the Poly hardcore...so our Top 10 might not be as important as -we- want it to be, anyway.
I do know, though, that Firaxis read every page of the previous list (it was printed and tabbed, etc.). So it wouldn't suprise me if the same happened this time as well.I've been on these boards for a long time and I still don't know what to think when it comes to you -- FrantzX, December 21, 2001

I can only hope that-
though Soren did make fun of one or two suggestions that missed my editing mark... IE: "the ai should be better" was pretty much the substance of one of the suggestions that was included.
but we tried to make the list as useful as possible...-->Visit CGN!

Heh... Well, there wasn't much activity on the AI suggestion side IIRC. But did I really let that in?Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
