  • Ideas on an aspect of units

    *I posted this earlier in another thread, but I wanted to create one about it*

    Here's my idea: I think it would be a ineresting addition to gameplay if some units, maybe even UU's, recieved bonuses for their stats only under certain conditions.

    For instance, you could have a unit whose stats would raise if they were fighting in, say, a desert, or defending in a swamp. In return for the limited availibility of their bonus, the stats would raise more than one point, like gaining a point for both movement and attack, or two points on defense. I think these types of units would add a new level to the military strategy part of civ4. What do you think. I'm only floating this idea, so I'd love some suggestions!

    Having something like that could work very well for guerillia units: they get a huge bonus when fighting in there homelands or what was there homeland in the past(they know the terrain perfectly) but they get a huge penality outside there homelands.

    This would allow guerillia to be as good in defending there homelands as they where in reality(there are many examples of how little nations there guerillia drove bigger nations out of there country) without them becoming an overpowering offensive unit.

      Precisely. I really think it would be a fun new strategic challenge I would love to see implemented

        BTW: I don't know if this would necessairily be an improvement, but maybe we should be given the option (the Option meaning you wouldn;t have to) of setting your civ traits to random. That would also really mix up the strategy, and make sure you don't wind up having similar games and therefore have a unadaptable leadership style.

          Gaining bonus attributes from terrain is similar to gaining an advantage from attacking certain types of units. Archer vs Horse for example.
          Great idea, and one that should be easy to implement!

            Yes that would be great. It would also be could that there is except the traits you automaticly start with also a trait you can choice yourself. For example wathever an empire is a trade empire or a second sparta is not only decided by the enviroment and the background of your empire but also by the choices you make. Both spartans and athens where greeks living in very similar enviroments but they made very different choice about what they want to specialize in.

                These are good ideas that have already been discussed in one or more of the "The List" threads (though I forget which one(s) ). Maybe someone else knows the exact thread. If you can find the thread, post your ideas there.
