[Map Script] SmartMap

    I have a suggestion concerning peaks: At the moment, they are just an annoyance when looking for city placement positions. However, maybe it is possible to create mountain ranges that may pose as an strategically important element.

    Also, sometimes it'd be nice to have a more homogenous landscape. For example, often I get a large area containing scattered desert tiles. I'd prefer one large desert instead.

      Designing peaks as a strategic element is somewhat challenging. I've spent some time thinking about how to do this before and not really gotten anywhere. It's something I'll likely look at again at some point though.

      Switching to the standard terrain generator will typically create a more homogenous landscape, that may be what you want to try, or possibly oasis.

        I just downloaded v91 and i have put the py file in the public map folder, and every time i open the game a box comes up saying 'failed to load python module SmartMap'. I press ok and then it goes into the main menu and click single player and the error message comes up again. i can press ok a couple of times and it goes away but when i go to custom game and try to choose SmartMap it doesn't work.

        How do I fix this?

          Maybe the download was corrupt. You could try to download and extract the file again.

            As the other poster suggested, this is almost certainly a download that had an error. Try downloading again, and please do post again if that doesn't solve the problem.

                BTW, SmartMap DOES work with Warloards, and you are not required to put it in the Warloards/PublicMaps folder.

                    There is a small but unlikely chance that your game install could be corrupt. Try a fresh install...

                    Also, any update on the status of v10?

                      • SmartMap is mod independant, so it should work with all mods that let you use your own map.

                          • I like this map script alot. There is just one thing that annoying my and that is the jungle. Its not the quantity of the jungle its the placement. Jungle can appear to far north and south for my likings. To make things little worse jungle and forrest sometimes grows every other square.

                            Is there any way you can do as in some of the default script where they limit the growth of forrest and jungle by making latitude diffrences?

                              • Thank you for making this script. I have enjoyed several highly successful games over the last few weeks. I think it's brilliant and does exactly what I want a map script to do - make exciting, strategic, unpredictable maps, without deviating from the parameters I specify. I love it and will continue to use it for months to come.
