    Thank you for mentioning this utility. It is great. It even caught a mismatched xml tag when I hit "save". I didn't even have to wait until running Civ to find the error.

        Eclipse is clearly the superior product. Besides being free of charge to the end user, it is open-source and fully extensible.

        And it includes most, if not all, of the aforementioned features.

            Yes, it is nice but do you realise it's an entire framework?

            Comparing it to Notepad++ is like comparing the military to a gun. It's way overkill for just editing an XML file or two.

              jedit is also excellent. Plus, it works on all platforms

                Dude, most people don't want an IDE for editing python/XML files, they want a text editor with syntax highlight and (optionally) tabs.
