There's an easy way to get that right now.
Download this mod, install it (just put everything in the mods folder) then delete every file except CIV4GameSpeedInfo.xml.
Then you can make whatever changes you want to the
and sections of the Epic gameplay settings. Enjoy..

Based on the limited # of Civ4 games I've played, I can say that in general I agree with your basic conclusions about stock Civ4 re: the pace of the game. Something is wrong with it. Perhaps the pace was initiated by design, to have fast games for all of the short-attention-span-theater types. That's fine for the stock game. Epic on the stock game should be epic...

But real civ'ers want to be able to have an Age of Sail or an Age of Gunpowder where they fight wars with muskets and cutlasses (arrgh matey) and fight wars with cannon and bayonet, and so forth. Or a time period where factories and bad health and jack the ripper rule.

It's unfun to build 1 or 2 musketmen and then they are obsolete as soon as they're built. It's unfun to have a simple little war take 90% of the lategame turns. I can see why it was done for a regular stock Civ4 game, but geez, the epic mode needs to be drawwwn out.

Yours is the type of modding I did to Civ3; when I fully understand and have played enough games of Civ4, perhaps I'll do the same to it. How long will that take? Probably next year sometime. I'll let the wine mature a bit before I start messing with the fermentation...

Well.. it's not too difficult, though the python user interface code is just nightmarish. UI always seems to get that way on games (speaking from personal experience, trolls go away!) because of deadlines, kibbitzing from upper mgmt, and poor scheduling. So don't expect to have much fun if you want to change the game seriously before the SDK comes out.

Aside from "fixing" the strategic resource thing, I'm staying the hell away from Python for the foreseeable future. There are still a bunch of little annoying problems with the math in calculating the # of turns left till city growth or production completion.. I just haven't had the heart to wade back into that crap.

This kind of experience makes me real glad I don't make games anymore.

I thought your mod was a reasonably good idea, but since you're being a jerk to your potential users, this thing's dead in the water.

Refusing to address concerns simply because you don't feel the other person has the right to have concerns shows a weakness in your concept.

          Have fun.

lol.. if you say so.. I guess I should just curl up in a corner and cry. Let me be clear.. this mod is here to provide inspiration for other mod-makers, and to provide fun for people who like the idea and want to play it. It is not here as a platform for my own personal fame, nor is it going to be a forum for trolls to vent their frustrations with the universe..

Why even post if you don't like the way I conduct a thread? Just go away, idiot. I sure won't chase you down, or go into a thread you make and be rude. If I have something to say in another thread, I am always polite and try to be helpful. But in here, in a mod I created and disseminated for absolutely no gain of my own, I am supposed to take guff from random kibbitzers who want to discuss changes I've playtested because they theoretically disagree? Ridiculous. Only on the Internet would such an idea be entertained, much less considered appropriate.

After a number of days considering the problem, I think the strategic resources adding bonuses will have to be removed until the SDK. My reasons:

Lots of special cases to handle in the city screen result in weird arithmetic errors, and false reporting of # turns before completion. This could be fixed.

Can't update the base yield for food or production, producing bad total hammers no matter what. It's just barely possible this could be almost fixed, but the fix (eliminating the game's addition of hammers and food by subtracting that much off, then calculating my own and adding it in) is so hacky I won't do it.

And the final killer: Can't update the city info displayed on the main game map. At least, I couldn't find any such interface to manipulate.

I can do this stuff when the SDK comes out, till then I refuse to spend any more time hacking, when all I'm doing is creating weird bugs. The next version of the mod will have no Python. If you want to update it now, just delete the Python folder in the mod.. thats all you'd need to do.

I know the majority of people reading this thread would never consider trying to educate people on the internet (in this case me) in their version of politeness. They are not that stupid. You are, though. Please go away.

I will say exactly what I like, in here, in attempting to keep the discussion on the mod. You don't like it? Life's hard like that. But who cares what you think?

                    Can you read?

I said before that i thought you had some good ideas.

Please stop trying to insult me. It is not becoming of you.

You're lucky i'm even posting here and giving your mod more exposure.

Fair. I've been wondering whether responding to the politness nazis was counterproductive. It does amuse me.. I admit it. But I won't do it anymore if it means people who are actually interested in the updates are annoyed by it. Apologies to any non-trolls I've irritated.
