What does Firaxis say about epic? That you can micromanage the game so it takes longer? Is THAT really epic, or is that boring?
Can we have that choice's name changed from epic to boring?
What might make a game epic? What's the BIGGEST problem with Civ?...ALL of em? I, II, III,...IV?
The biggest problem with Civ is runaway success. When you get on a roll and start engulfing cities like they are potato chips. When there are no more enemies worth conquering. Solve this problem and you have an epic game.
My challenge is a little something I'll call the 'Friends & Family game. Every so often...few hundreds of years, you start accumulating sons, getting long in the tooth, choosing your successor...the empire fractures...or a group of units go renegade under a general and march on the capital, or a city gets stolen by a usurper! Or you have no sons, even worse, you choose your successor but not all your cities agree...
NOOO! not this again! But just think, your enemies will have the same problem.
Anyway, this little problem is what made the real world epic, (and helped keep empires from growing out of control, the bigger they get the worse the problem)) micromanagement, the endless details of life just makes it tedious.
