  • New 4X Sid Meier's Colonization style game Treasure Fleet

Has anyone tried this new Civ & Colonization inspired game yet? If so is it good?

Treasure Fleet is a 4X turn based strategy game set in the Age of Discovery. You start with a small ship with colonists on board, and set off to discover new lands, establish lucrative colonies, trade with the natives and fight the enemies of your country.

I'm thinking about hitting the button on it as it's currently on sale thanks to the steam autumn sales however there's next to no reviews on it. A presumably one man show making a game as complicated as Colonization is no easy task (eg the FreeCol project has been going for 20yrs haha) so it could be not so great lol. It sure as hell looks pretty cool though! The Col addict in me is super tempted to try it asap haha! I love the retro 90s Col & Civ2 feel in his pics..

I certainly find it visually appealing! It's quite tempting to try it out soon. I really appreciate the retro 90s vibe in his images.

I'm going to be honest with you, this game is exhausting.

Oh, I wasn't talking about the game you posted about, I was talking about my "game" to make a post in every forum before anyone else could make post, thus "sweeping" the board with my avatar in the last reply column.

I know, it's terrible. I think of Apolyton as a metaphor for life.

Cool find — I hadn’t heard of Treasure Fleet before, but I love the idea of a modern 4X game inspired by Colonization. That said, here’s how I’d approach deciding whether to take the plunge:

What to look for / test
                    • How deep the mechanics are (colonies, trade, diplomacy, conflict)
                    • Whether the AI is competent or predictable
                    • Balance / pacing — does it drag or feel unfair late game
                    • Performance and UI polish (bugs, lag, clarity)
                    • Replayability — different strategies, paths, maps

My take given what you posted
                    • Given its visual throwback and niche inspiration, it’s likely to appeal most to “hardcore strategists” rather than casual gamers.
                    • The fact it has few reviews suggests it might still have rough edges or a smaller development team behind it.
                    • If the price is low and there’s a refund window, it might be worth trying — you’ll know pretty fast whether it’s a keeper or a mod for your frustration. BHI General Contracting

I’ve played Treasure Fleet for a while now. It’s not as deep or polished as Civilization IV: Colonization, but there’s a decent little strategy game here if you enjoy older 4X games.

The best part is building your colonies and setting up trade. You bring in colonists and skilled workers, collect raw materials, turn them into better goods and ship them home for profit. There are more than 30 buildings, so your settlements slowly grow from small camps into useful towns. You can also explore ruins, visit native villages, hunt for treasure and look for El Dorado. The maps are randomly made, so each game starts a bit differently.

You can focus on trade, exploring or fighting. I enjoyed the early and middle parts most because you’re always trying to find better land, protect your ships and work out what each colony should produce. The King also gives you missions, and new ships become available as the game goes on. Later, you can declare independence and fight the King’s army, much like Colonization.

The biggest problem is that the game doesn’t explain everything very well. Some menus feel clunky, a few important rules are easy to miss and the random events can be a bit harsh. It also doesn’t offer much control over the game settings, and the ending can arrive sooner than expected. These things make it feel like a small indie game rather than a fully polished 4X title.

Overall, I’d say it’s worth playing if you love Colonization, Civilization II or Imperialism II and don’t mind old-school graphics and rough edges. Just don’t expect a modern AAA game. I had fun with it, but I’d grab it while it’s cheap rather than expecting it to replace Colonization. personal trainer Brisbane
