  • Interested in a Single Player CivBE Demogame?

It's still unclear if a Pitboss client will be released with CivBE. So far I don't recall hearing any mention of one. It would be fun to hit the ground running with a SP Demo Game, learning as we go. Hopefully this will be possible!

I'd prefer MP but I'm down for either.

e: actually, come to think of it, SP makes more sense.

Just a general note, if anyone is interested in joining a Demogame, Team Apolyton is in the end game of a big intersite demogame that started two years ago. We could always use more interested folks!

What do you mean by "participating" in a demo game? Is this something different from the manufacturer pasting a demo game for us to download as a free trial?

Democracy Game, basically we play 'collectively', deciding what to do among everyone who participates.

Sooo............ It's not really a demo game, it's a real game shared by people too cheap to buy their own?

I think it would be very rare for someone who didn't own the game to want to participate in a demo game. It takes a rather intense interest in the game to want to participate in a demogame that will take months or years to finish. That usually means the person is interested enough to buy the game.

We each have our own copies of the game, we're all just collectively playing one 'game', deciding on moves, build orders, etc.

Who makes the final decision on moves? Do we vote on each and every minute detail?

No, I think they elect officers and cabinet positions, or something.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Demogame is short for Democracy Game. The people playing the game form a government that makes all the choices for the game. This government can be any type of government can be any kind of government and can actually change over the course of the game. For instance, in the early stage of the game, there are limited choices to make, so every choice is disscussed. Later, when there are multiple cities and projects going on, these tasks get broken down into Ministers. Min of War gives orders to the units, Min of Interior gives orders on builds etc... one person actually plays the game following the orders given. It works just like real governments and is actually a very interesting way to do things. It gives an idea into how thing work in real government.

I've learned two things today. One. Demogame does not mean what I think it means. Two. I really want to play a DemoGame.
