2K Account?

Civ7 on Steam says the following. What is a 2K account and do I really need this thing? I'm tired of signing up for new accounts everywhere. Ugh.

Yeah, total malarky, I signed up for it to get Napoleon, but seems like another source of spam.

Technically you don't need one for Civ7. but you’ll miss out on stuff like cross-platform saves, online features, etc. If you’re single-player it’s not essential, but if you want the full experience it’s kind of their way of pulling you in.

I feel you on the endless accounts. I just always try to get more info before jumping in but basically it's just the publisher’s login. But more like Ubisoft Connect.​
