I look out on the population here before me and I am dismayed. I declare the strong nation of Apolyton is in trouble. The enthusiasm and commitment that made our country so great is now just a faint memory. Where once great leaders stood, there are now empty places. Our glorious capitol of Apolyton is empty, save for the few dedicated and couragous souls who refused to give up on their country.
Where is our strength? What has happened? Where are the Hawks, the D.I.A., the A.R.E., and the A.R.G.? Many have fled our shores and begun anew in a distant land full of Roleplayers, Warmongers, Legolanders, Luxians, Controllis, Stormians and Demogyptians.
But they have forgotten their origins. Some have returned, some have not. They will come, in time, for the Great Banana will call upon them one day.
It is at this crossroads that I have decided two things. What are they, you may ask? Please, I cannot speak above all the applause.![]()
First,I'd like to announce today my founding of the Apolyton Labor Party (or LP for short). The Labor Party shall be a cornerstone for the working class, a voice that will be heard. We will return this nation to it's former grandeur!
*applause*
I'd also like to announce that it is through this new, great vessel that is the Labor Party that I shall run as Supreme Military Commander for the 7th Term Elections. I accept my nomination as your new SMC, and shall carry the duties of that glorious office out to the best of my abilities. Thank you for your support and best wishes to all. May all wayward Apolytons return to their homeland, and may the brave and devoted souls who stayed on to lead the nation be blessed.

I denounce this so-called "Labor Party" as no more than a front for Meshelic and other Hawks! I would support a labor association, as long as it is not political.

It seems kind of weird for a party named the "Labor Party" to have well known advocates for war.
The Labor parties that sprunk up in Western Europe in the first quarter of the 20th century were all dovish parties, calling for peace and solodarity of workers across international boundaries, pointing out that workers in France had more in common with workers in Germany than they do with the owners of capital in France. (This was during the Great War)

A real Labor party would have the following positions in the game:
1. They'd be against any war, even the upcoming German war.
2. They'd also be against the building of Factories that make wage slaves out of citizens that used to be independant farmers.
3. They'd be advocating government supplied help for the sick. (Building of Hospitals)
4. They'd be against the construction of Police Stations which break up the workers protests.
5. They'd also be against mobilizing the economy for war.

I applaud any party trying to revitalize the game, but I'm frankly skeptical any one entity - even a party - can accomplish that. How do you intend for the Labor Party to go about this?

I thought of the correct name for this party:
The Bull Moose Party. (Splinter of the Republican Party in 1912 afer TR didn't like how his successor was running the office.)
TR was highly pro-war, and called for the US to back England and France when they declared war on Germany, so it would be a very approative name considering that Germany is next on the hit list.

You may denounce until you are blue in the face, but the facts remain: I have left the Hawk Party completely and do not choose to be associated with them any longer. My days as a Hawk are gone, permanently. Nor is this a Hawk conspiracy. That is the truth.Originally posted by civman2000

And for those who wish to define my Labor Party under their own false generalizations, you do not have my permission to declare what the party stands for, regardless of what REAL Labor parties stand for in real life. This is not real life, and as such I have the freedom to design ANY agenda for ANY party I create, regardless of name.

Interesting. I guess us stubborn independants would be advised to wait and learn all of the party's positions before considering joining, then.Welcome Panzer32! You are doing a great service for your country!

Just that I am very confident in my party achieving the goals of its charter. In small ways, I have already achieved some success in my plan, and it has only been 14 hours or so since I began.
There is a big clincher to this action, however. Some of you shall see it, and it will elude you. Some of you will see it and it shall make total sense, although it will NOT be obvious. Time will tell, time will tell.

As a die-hard Indy, I eye this all with suspision. I'll always support the formation of a political party, but wonder if we will find ourselves switching to communisim soon as part of your agenda. As we all know communisim is an ideal gov for a warmonger platform... hmmm ....
Anyway,
If I get elected FAM, I would be happy to work with you, Meshelic if you become SMC. Together we can play the world (oops no pun intended, but hey its out) to the glory of Apolyton.

Remember.... pillage first then burn.
Although it is globally understood that Labor Party's have been known to be a driving proponent of Communist states, I do NOT advocate a Communist government be put in place of the glorious Democracy of Apolyton.Originally posted by ManicStarSeed

Should I be elected as my country's Supreme Military Commander, I will most surely maintain our democratic way of life to the utmost of my ability. A totalitarian Communist government is in direct opposition to the ideals of the Apolyton Labor Party.

Given your established record as a warmonger, would it not be more appropriate to call your somewhat populist labor party the "National Socialist Party"![]()
I say let them form a Red-Brown Coalition, those of us who stand for sensible liberalism (using the 19th Century definition, not necessarily the 20th Century American one) shall fight you.
As for the DIA, it is much more alive than you would like to believe. The Hawks, especially with your departure, are essentially dead (given that you were the last life of that once mighty party).

And as for my record as a warmonger, a D.I.A. member in your Elections thread mentioned that their party was behind every war we have been in, so you cannot say that your own record is not full of warmonger mentality. Whether you were the one saying "let's kill em!" or the one saying "well, okay it'll be good for the industrialists..." does not matter.
You cannot say my party is a red brown coalition when I have not yet even announced what my party stands for. Perhaps when the charter is posted you may make whatever opinion you like, and then we can discuss that.I say let them form a Red-Brown Coalition, those of us who stand for sensible liberalism (using the 19th Century definition, not necessarily the 20th Century American one) shall fight you.
Indeed, that's why barely half the posts in your election thread were by independants and former Hawks? As for the DIA, it is much more alive than you would like to believe. The Hawks, especially with your departure, are essentially dead (given that you were the last life of that once mighty party).
I am no longer a Hawk. That I had a Hawk past has little to do with my formation of a new poltical party. But if you wish to fight us, then let it be so. Perhaps you should decide whether to be threatened or not when I post the charter for all to see?

Parties are nasty and pernicious.
Ok, if I get this right the only parties left are the DIA and the new LP. Is this correct? I'm trying to get a handle on what's going on.
edit: I would support this party if I didn't think that my support would polarize this party's standing on the political spectrum.

Duddha,
Basically the Hawks are dead as an organized political movement. That doesn't mean that hawks (with a lower-case 'h') aren't still a political presence (as they certainly are). Figures such as Unorthodox, donegeal, Meshelic, UberKruX, and others continue to occassionally make pro-war posts in the forums which one might claim have had some impact on policy.
That said, the Hawk Party is indeed, for all intents and purposes, dead. Meshelic was really its last leader as most of the others faded away due to RL and PTW.
