"Race" is a term long used by governments to seperate us from them. What constitutes a "Race" are generally visible characteristics proscribed by psudo-scientists. These may include skin colour, hair colour, hair curliness, shape of head, shape of nose, shape of eyes, shape of forehead, etc.

Many governments including some that claim to be democracies, use racial profiling (once again, defining "race" solely for ulterior purposes), to seperate us - the good guys who must be protected from them - the bad guys - who should at least be treated with polite suspision.

I'm sure your poll is perfectly innocent, but I have no interest in participating.

I'm human, that gotta be enough. Human sub-races are inventions, there's no way you can draw a clear line between humans, only vague guesses by skin color or other features, but nothing substantial.
The "Hispanic" (Mestizo btw., not Metizo...) "race" e.g. is an invention of the US, no one else has this concept - and what should the hispanic race be? A "mixture" of the "pure" races Caucasian and American? - Don't be ridiculous.

Your whole cateogries show how voluntarily races are defined.

On the other hand, race DOES exist. I don't believe that categories like "Black" or "White" should be used to pigeonhole people, but I do believe that these categories are useful, scientifically, to describe heritage, genetics and human history.

the -oid suffix means "similar to" or "looks like" or something like that. by that definition, it wouldn't be wrong to classify khoisan as negroid or irishmen as caucasoid. if you see what I mean.

That's very Eurocentric.

The variations within "black" - Khoisan, pygmies, Ethiopians, Bantus, etc are MUCH larger than that between "Aryans", Slavs, "Latins" and Semites. Asians also show huge amounts of variation, from the Nenets to the Indonesians.

Also, words like "Aryan", "Slavic", "Finno-Ugric" etc are non-words when describing race, at least genetically. Genetic "race" doesn't work like language: there aren't any neat families. There are only "Nordic features" that fan out from Scandinavia into the Alps, and "Slavic features" that fan out from Russia towards the Atlantic. Even these features aren't well defined.

In short, a slightly more accurate way to see it would be:

* Alpine
* Mediterraneo - Middle Eastern
MONGOLOID
* North
* South + Polynesians
* Native American
NEGROID (Bantu)

I think that true turks are supposed to be mongoloid. Of course the people of Turkey are virtually entirely caucasian because most of them are descended from the greeks who originally lived in Asia minor, but the turkish people of central asia are mongoloid I think.

Dravidians are usually not classified as negroid. They're usually classified as "we don' know". Aborigines it turns out may be the closest thing to living relatives of the predecessors of both caucasians and mongoloids.
