To check its a problem with bigtrident, can you get freeciv to use both the "trident" and "isotrident" tilesets (which come with freeciv)?

I think the tileset selector in 1.14 beta shows you all the tileset files it could find in the freeciv data directory. If bigtrident is not on the list, then it sounds like you have not unzipped the bigtrident files in the right place.

To recap, the tilespec files like

    bigtrident.tilespec

    should go here:

    c:\program files\freeciv 1.14 beta\data\

and my other files should go here:

    c:\program files\freeciv 1.14 beta\data\bigtrident\

This should all happen properly if you told WinZip to extract the ZIP file to c:\program files\freeciv 1.14 beta\data\ and ticked the box "Use folder names".

Maybe you used c:\program files\freeciv 1.14 beta\ instead, I think I did the first time I tried to use a new tileset.

(Note - I have used c:\program files\freeciv 1.14 beta\ to mean whereever you installed freeciv, if you want to use bigtrident with both 1.14 beta and 1.13, then you will need to install in for both copies of freeciv)

(N.B. - By default recent versions of Windows will hide the filename extensions in explorer, so "bigtrident.tileset" will showup as "bigtrident", and "tiles.png" will showup as just "tiles" - This is controlled by the setting "Hide file extensions for known file types" reached in explorer from the menu Tools, Options)

Are you saying that you can't see all of the "local settings" screen?

Its possible that it is too big for your screen resolution (I think I found this when running in a low resolution before I got my flat screen), but if thats the case surely you wouldn't want to run bigtrident anyway!

Does the command line -tiles option work (as described in the other thread) ?

Sorry Geoffrey - I can't think of anything else to try, .

Maybe you should post a new thread
    (This is going off topic)

    Good luck. Peter

    BigTrident revived

Here I go reviving another long lost tileset project!

Fetch my second release here . Note that it is made for the 2.1 branch not yet released, so if you want to try it out you have to compile you Freeciv yourself from a development snapshot!

I'm afraid that the eternal diagonal rails glitch is still rearing it's ugly head (see below.) Do we need an improved roads.png?

Your tile set is missing the four new railroad tiles (the little corner pieces). You should grab the revised version Thue posted on page one of this thread, and the spec file entries to go with it.

The code to use them should be in FreeCiv 2.1 ...

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. It works now!

However I couldn't find a bigtrident release that contained this fix. The latetest one in this thread is 0.2.

    edit: mistake
