Proof beyond reasonable doubt is required. But to answer the first question, you really can't. That's why the whole voter ID thing disenfranchising people is so ludicrous. You need an ID to get a job, to drive a car, and to fly on airplanes. You also need one to buy alcohol, tobacco, guns, certain types of knives (in many states), and ammunition. In some states even buying spray paint or any kind of aerosol requires an ID. I guess if you're riding buses everywhere for your transportation and living on welfare you might not need one.

You'd need ID to claim your welfare?

Maybe. I've never been on welfare, so I don't know. My guess is that you don't.

You need a driver's license to drive a car. Every single store I've ever been to that sells alcohol or tobacco requires one as a matter of course.

You don't need a drivers license to drive a car.
I've driven many cars without one.

It makes sense to a Eurocom because ID requirements are one of those areas where Democrats and Republicans quietly switch ideological stances and hope no one notices. Democrats suddenly argue that requiring ID tramples on individual liberty, and Republicans suddenly argue that government needs to step in and regulate.

If someone stopped me on the street right now and demanded that I prove that I'm an American citizen, I couldn't do it -- and neither could most Americans. The only document that can reliably be used to prove American citizenship is a passport; it's the only document that contains BOTH a confirmation of citizenship AND a photo ID. Citizenship is not required to obtain a driver's license -- the only form of ID most Americans carry, myself included. Beyond that, there's very little. Citizenship can be inferred from a birth certificate, but it would take a second ID to show the birth certificate with the person showing it (and even that wouldn't be sufficient for someone with a common name). A passport is really the only such document -- and fewer that 20% of Americans have passports.

Yes. You do need ID to receive social welfare benefits.
Frankly, this Black people don't have ID's thing is incredibly bizarre to me because I know a lot of Black guys who SPECIFICALLY make sure they always have their ID's on them because they know they could be targeted by police and having an ID can mean the difference between the cops letting you go or them taking you to the station.

So what you're saying is the only means by which you could have a livelihood (if you can call it that) without identification is through illegal work or the good graces of friends, neighbors, and relatives.

You need a photo ID for...
legal employment
cashing a check
opening a back account
receiving social welfare benefits
Yeah. I'd say you're right.
And instead of focusing on why people don't have ID's and getting them this necessary instrument (maybe by supporting this voter ID law that subsidizes ID's), Democrats want to say wah! people don't have ID's so they're being disenfranchised.
My brain is struggling to comprehend the Democratic position and I just can't. On facebook, I get called racist.

If you get in an accident or get pulled over, it's a real pain in the ass if you don't have your license. It's just a bad idea to drive without it.

Two quick questions, firstly what photo ID is required for legal employment? Also, do photo ID's not have a validity dates on them? Things like opening bank accounts are things many people only do once. Many people wouldn't have opened a new account for decades and probably wouldn't have needed a photo ID back when they did.

You usually need your driver's license and social security number to fill out all the required forms. Some require you to fill out a proof of residency which requires a birth certificate or passport in addition to driver's license.

Stop saying driver's license. A non-drivers State ID is perfectly valid. You're spreading misinformation.

A state ID in PA is $13.50 and is surprisingly quick at the DMV to renew. They require no documentation to renew (assuming you have the expired ID). If you renew online, you simply walk in and they hand you the new ID or take a new picture within minutes, with no wait necessary.
The voter ID law in PA provides voter ID's for free.

State ID. Whatever. That's what I meant. Yes, you don't actually have to be a licensed motorist to get a state identification.

The other day, Bill Maher said Black people don't have ID's (which he confused with drivers licenses) because they're poor and take the bus.
I wonder if Bill Maher was having slave-master fantasies when he was ****ing Superhead.

I've known many people who don't even have driver's licenses. What if you're an epileptic? Blind? Crippled? What if you got hurt, lost your job, then lost your home and car so you didn't renew your license because you didn't have a car?
