It doesn't have to be Tribes. I know Boann would be up for it.

Okay. I tried Rhye's and Fall. I only made it to the modern age before the lag got annoying. Here are my criticisms:
1) I really missed A New Dawn's special features such as automated border patrols. A New Dawn's unique unit graphics based on civilization was also really nice. It's the little stuff that I got used to with A New Dawn that really ought to be in this.
2) Ancient age too short. Problem with Civ in general is that the ancient period is just rushed through with very little content and the focus is entirely on the modern era. My first game, I played as Babylon. As soon as Persia formed, it declared war. The war itself wasn't very eventful. They tried to take my capital and then just sat in my territory until I mustered the forces to drive them out. The thing is, this war lasted for over 1000 years!!! What are turns like in Civ in the ancient period? Like 100 years per turn? Ridiculous. That's no fun, especially since ancient history is my interest. Mods like A New Dawn stretch out the ancient era and make it feel relevant. The Ancient Mediterranean mod is great in this regard but it obviously ends just shy of the Roman era.
3) Too deterministic. I had to stop my Babylon game. As soon as I had peace with Persia, it was 600 AD and the Arabs appeared with a ton of camel archers (what the hell is a camel archer, by the way? Video games really are atrocious for representing Middle Eastern militaries). I get why they're trying to have the game model real life but it's just too deterministic that pretty much Arabia has to form and I have to be incredibly on point to beat them back. This also means the Europeans will always be the most advanced by the industrial era which is a little against the spirit of civ. My second game, I played as India and my position meant that my game went the opposite of Babylon; that is, I never had any issues with super-Persians, super-Arabs, or super-Mongols showing up (not historically accurate here, is it?It's like the modmakers have no knowledge of Indian history) and just built quietly in peace. I zoomed through the tech tree as a result and saw all my neighbors were far more primitive. When I made contact with the Europeans, they were more advanced than my neighbors but still quite a lot behind me. I decided to just get railroads, combustion, flight, etc. as fast as possible and set my 18 population, wonder-filled cities to focus on research. About 50 years later, though, the Europeans are surpassing me with some techs. How the heck did that happen? No way unless there's a mechanic in the mod to make them more advanced. Again, too deterministic.

IIRC in the Rhye's and Fall mod they make you pay more for techs if you have more cities.

If CW, boann and slowwy are up for mp Civ2, could I join in too? It's been ages since I've played MP.

Steam is OK as long as you don't want to give away a game you played, even to your kids... or alternatively you need to let them use your account to play, so you are locked out...
but the sales are great, and I bought waaayyyy too many games that I may never get to use and play just because I do not have enough time to do so![]()

Why are you upset about that, and not the fact you are so poor that $12 matters so much to you?

yes, he should buy something else on Steam, to feel better he got a bargain. Odds on that game will be better than Civ V as well, no matter what it is.

I got the Game of the Year edition. It has all the DLC but Korea. I don't need the Koreans.

Whose Game of the Year was Civ 5?

No doubt a company that got paid by Firaxis/Atari for the honor because no sane person would ever do that.

You're all whiners. Civ 5 is a solid game. If you never played any other Civ game to get used to certain things and Civ 5 was your first, you would absolutely love it. You're ****ing lying to yourself if you think otherwise. There is nothing wrong with the game, only things wrong with it in relation to Civ 4 expectations.
Which is why reviewers love the game because they're looking at the game stand-alone and from the perspective of a general gamer, not a Civ nut comparing it to fully patched with all expansions and mods Civ 4.
And you *****es do know the Steam workshop makes getting mods easy... mods such as ones that return the game back to the old multiple units in one square system, right?

Searching for 'Civilization' on this page didn't find any examples of Civ 5 being "Game of the Year" for anybody:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_the_Year

Coming out the same year as Starcraft II and Mass Effect 2 kind of made getting Game of the Year honors kind of impossible.

What is so great about either of those games that would have made them unbeatable? If Civ5 had been a really good game instead of a pile of mediocrity I don't see what the problem would have been.

If these reviewers are people who have never played any previous version of civ maybe they shouldn't be reviewing a strategy game. If you're claiming that people who have played previous versions of civ can imagine how they would like it if this was their first, well, I imagine that I would think civ5 is a pile of crap.

Sorry but you sound like the type that *****es on game forums for every game when it comes out. Nothing is wrong with Civ V. All your complaints sum to 'It's not Civ 4'.
