Regarding the Shea Weber hit, how is this not intent to injure?
Totally unwarranted cheap shot. Game was over.

I knew I should have picked the Kings
Same old Canucks. Kesler could be a really good player, but he insists on being a douche.

I'm wondering about Weber too. I was watching that live (obviously), and it looked pretty vicious at the time. Especially with the focus on head-hunting, I can't imagine he won't get hit with at least a game.

He should be out for the series, IMO.
I'm so sick of that kind of ****.

Plus you know the game he returns against the Wings, **** will go down.

And Weber just got a $2,500 fine.

    Bullshit.

No suspension, $2,500 fine. That'll learn him good.

That's the minimum fine they can even assess.

Actually, that the maximum fine they can assess under the current CBA.

Can't believe there was no suspension. it was literal head-hunting.

Why does the NHL let guys off so easy in the playoffs? It totally sends the wrong message.

Dunno. I suppose they could in theory. Though for most NHL players, and especially for someone like Weber, $2,500 might as well be $1.

I had myself convinced that Weber would be sitting a game or two for that stupid stunt. I guess all that talking the league did about "player safety" over the last year only applies during the regular season.

Sloppy game for Vancouver. Hopefully the loss will wake them up, though.

Also, it's hard to see why Weber got a meaningless fine when Bitz was (deservedly) suspended two games for his hit.

I am utterly baffled by lack of punishment for Weber.

The only thing I can think of is that Shanahan's office wants to avoid questions of favortism towards her former teammates in Detroit, but that seems a stretch.

The NHL seems to becoming increasingly like the NBA where there's one set of rules for star players and another for everyone else. My guess is that Weber wasn't suspended because his absense would very likely have a measurable impact on the series, and so the league didn't want to upset the competitive balance. Which of course is horeshit, but that's where we seem to be.

If Z had gotten a concussion from that, which could have easily happened, Detroit certainly would have suffered a loss of competitive balance.

It seems awfully dumb. It's giving free licence to thuggery--if you actually seriously injure the guy, we'll suspend you, but if he's okay, you're off the hook.

The worst of it is that, because it was the end of the game, there are absolute no consequences at all. No power play. Weber gets off with the nominal fine. Load of horseshit.

Hah. I'd no idea it was created in response to the "C of Red". Though the C of Red remains more impressive, both visually and because 99% of those people have legit jerseys and not free white t-shirts.

I was wondering about the white t-shirts when I turned on the game. I actually expected a larger Chicago fan crowd as usually happens during regular season games. Bad second period really cost Hawks and then they did same thing after coming out strong in OT, but couldn't score. But just have to take one there.

    So there.

Survey says, the Toronto Maple Leafs are the country’s most hated hockey team

The Canucks as Canada’s most hated team? Think again. A new Angus Reid Public Opinion poll conducted in partnership with Maclean’s has found that Toronto—not Vancouver—is the country’s most hated hockey team. It turns out Vancouver, which has worn the “hated” label since last spring’s failed Stanley Cup run, is actually one of the country’s most popular teams. Montreal, meanwhile, is the country’s favourite club.

The Canucks are only hated in the West, where people actually understand the sport.

ok, I am now officially impressed with Philadelphia.

Also, does neither team believe in defence?

That's quite a powerplay Vancouver has there.

Am I wrong in remembering last year they had a lethal powerplay?
