Not me of course! I need smoking for my social adventures (say what you want but asking for a cigarette/lighter is the BEST icebreaker in world)

Anyone taking the plunge? Having gone smoke-free in 2006, I can reassure people that it's actually a lot easier than I thiught it would be.

I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

I did this in 2003... Thanks God!
And I agree: it was a lot easier than I thought!

I was aiming for it for New Year 2000. But in fact, I gave up a tenday before. I smoked my last cigarette December 21, 1999. I left my last package with 5 cigarettes in it in my drawer. There they were for 2 years, untouched, until my wife threw them away. I never smoked again. And true, it was easy.

You can still do that. Just carry sparklers or indoor fireworks around with you. I guarantee they'll make more impact than a Camel Light.Originally posted by Datajack Franit

After a bottle of italian red, freixenet (yeah, cheap, but no reason to spend on something you can't make the difference on) an a couple of glasses of Caol ila (that you can taste even after much drinking), I certainly don't want to stop smoking.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

I have been quiting and going back to smoking over and over for the last two or so years. It's been absolutely miserable and has had a horrible effect on my waistline.
I'm in the process of trying to quit again. We'll see how it goes this time (grrrr). Of course, it doesn't help that the folks at Natural American Spirit sent me a $10 gift certificate/coupon for cigarettes. The coupon is sitting in my jacket pocket right now tempting me and mocking me. I feel like Jason listening to the Sirens, only I don't have the benefit of being strapped to the mast.

I have never suffered withdrawal as a result from stopping smoking. Therefore I was not addicted. I was always an intermittant smoker- a few weeks on followed by a few weeks off. It's the total "real and long-term" stopping that I wonderedif I could do.
It turned out that it was effortless. See? No addiction.

Only someone with an addiction would smoke, it's that revolting. Either that or they are a kid unable to resist peer pressure.

The taste of tobacco is an atttractive one to a seasoned palate. If that's a lie, why is it considered to be a useful taste of character in some great red wines?

Also what about smoking weed? That's something many do on their own to relax from a troublesome week or the like.

In other news, legal smoking age is set to go up to 18 soon here. Don't see the new law making that much difference, considering most under 16s get their cigs from friends and family as it is.
