  • Q: Was Brian involved in AoE?

A local TV program on computer games, tilt.tv, said in looking at RoN beta disc. That Brian Reynolds, who is known from Age of Empires series is making in his opwn studio now Rise of Nations. ( Article can be found in Finnish from here.)

Is this so, or should the program check it's facts better?
(I've been in the assuption that Brian hasn't been involved in AoE himself.)

MarkG: Thx for the clarification - started to doubt myself already...
(I was quite supprised myself last Saturday when I heard this in their TV program.)

Well, I posted tilt.tv feedback about this - let's see if anything happens. (Like removing the preview from their site )

Yep, they made a mistake there. AoE designer is Bruce Shelley, who worked together with Sid Meier on Civ 1. Brian had nothing to do with AoE series.

AoE lead designer was Rick Goodman (EE) , Bruce Shelley and Brian Sullivan were also designers.
Sandy Petersen is credited for the RoR expansion design.

This is straight from the original booklet btw.

Sandyman is a big guy who's credited for everything .

Bruce is designer of AoE2 expansion and AoM, though, and is probably more important than Rick.

This from a recent Brian Reynolds interview:

Funny that you mention Bruce and Rick specifically since they’re both good friends of mine. Rick and I didn’t know each other at the beginning of Rise of Nations, but since then we’ve gotten together several times to play EE and RON and board games; after Rise of Nations ships I’m hoping to get up to Boston to see their cool new offices. Bruce and I both worked at Microprose together back in the old days, of course, and he’s been very helpful and supportive as we’ve started our new studio and game. With Bruce and Rick it’s not like we design our games together or something (though the occasional idea or suggestion has been known to pass back and forth!) but it’s great to be able to talk to someone else who’s been going through similar experiences.
