Could someone please explain why I keep going to war with other nations when I don't want to?

I'm playing the campaign, focussing on one nation at a time - trying to remain peaceful with other nations. But no sooner is my peace proposal accepted, than I find I am at war again! I've tried looking up automated diplomacy options, but can't find anything.

If there is no options, I think this is a major design flaw. When I make peace, I want to stay in peace. With the excellent diplomacy of SMAC, I really expected better.

Stop earning yourself posts in my thread.

I want to know if there is a way to stop my nation accidently or otherwise, going to war, 2 seconds after I have made peace.

If it is the other nation that is going to war with me 2 seconds after I sign a peace treat, then they should not be inclined to sign the peace treaty in the first place.

            Does this happen repeatedly??

Will it happen if you have bribed them for peace with no other elements in the trade? I generally find I can keep a peace for several minutes after a treaty

I assume you're playing CtW in the T&P expansion. I almost never approach other countries for peace--it's either ally, or at war. I actually consider it a blessing if I'm attacked, cause hey, easy 50 Tribute! What I hate about peace: a) you have to pay 25 Tribute to attack them, and b) you often have to play "Surprise attack" scenario instead of the standard "Conquest" if someone at peace attacks you. I hate Surprise attack. Usually I just position a defensive army on my border and watch out for overruns & potential allied attacks. Once in Napoleon I left Britain at war, and he had the nerve to attack me where I had 2 allies! I basically could go off and watch TV, and 45 minutes later I had 50 tribute. LOL!

I have the same problem, and often I don't see the msg that they decleared war on me

I haven't played this game for a long time though

He said he's playing the campaign, but it's possible we're talking about the in-game diplomacy, like you see in the Alexander the Great campaign. I have a really hard time with that one, because I'm just taking them all on. I can do that on Tough, but 2-on-1 on Tougher without Spies is a bit much.

I didn't see the campaign bit... I've never had any problems with diplomacy in the campaigns...
