  • What about BigHugeGames

So with RoN now two years old and gold edition well and truly patched, attention shifts to what the future holds in store for BigHugeGames.

Has anybody heard anything about what their next project will be??

I kinda hope they'll announce something soon. The talent at that company is incredible, and it should soon be put to better use than an RTS title.

Well, they confirmed that it will be RTS and that they do history games the best...so? They've already done the sweep of history approach with RON, making the easy money go for something (by definition) less epic in scope. Considering you can't really do a caveman RTS or the future (since that wouldn't be history), I guess we've narrowed it down from the Romans to WW2...perhaps pushing to WW3.

      My top guesses would be:

-- A fully dedicated WW2 RTS. Would be great! Would appeal to a wide audience.

-- Something entirely Rome. Of course, Rome: Total War is still going strong, but this would be a RON version of it, so not really competitors. Everybody loves the Rome stuff...great units and buildings, throw in some Gods, etc.

-- I want to say a U.S. Civil War RTS, but Gettysburg is too good to top, so scratch that. And it would have narrow appeal.

-- Something in the vein of "U.S. as World Police" with lots of Iraq type wars could be great, but I don't see them being that political. Still, could be a lot of fun seeing a world power implode on itself by overstretching its empire. And the non-U.S. players would have a blast working toward the empire's downfall while the U.S. players might enjoy trying to hold the whole thing together.

-- Personally, I'd love a "political machine" type overlay to the above scenario whereby you'd have heavy negotiations, secretly funded rebel wars to try to topple governments, U.N. inspections, the whole bit before actually going to RTS war. But this won't be in the cards, I'm sure, because of complexity, development cost and the fact that it would be trying to accomplish two kinds of gaming at once.

        StarCraft 2, SC2!

I wonder what they can do during all this time... sitting in a sofa waiting for an idea to come? Nah...

Which stand as a testimony to the fact that RTS's are not really a 'poly thing

Not another RTS... I love Star Craft, Warcraft III and Rise of Nations, but SMAC is the last great computer TBS game I've played.

                    How disappointing.
