Consequences re: above city limit

After playing through the tutorials, I completed my first game 1v2 on the easiest level last night. Along the way to victory, I accumulated morecities than my limit.

Is there a consequence for this? I didn't notice anything negative affecting my empire.

not really, u just cant build any more cities of ur own
