  • Lakota: most interesting new nation in T&P

I think the Lakota are the most interesting new nation in T&P.

They have 2 very interesting powers:
    - food from citizens instead of farms.
    - invisible borders, can build outside borders.

The food from citizens instead of farms changes things quite a bit. You can simply build lots of citizens to get food. And you don't need to spend timber building farms. Since I tend to build too many citizens, this power really helps me a lot.

The ability to build outside borders means the Lakota can really expand their territory fast. This power seems to make the Lakota ideal for the territory victory.

Which new nation do you feel has the most unique powers?

The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

Actually, I think my preferences are linked to the maps. The Dutch are good at the Neworld while I kicked booty with the Iroquois on the Mesas.

I tend to shy away from the commercial nations. How do you use those bonuses to win? Do you simply use the extra cash to buy tons of ressources?

              Allright,

I guess weirdest or pherhaps most worthless is could be the same as the most interesting, but personally, I think someone at BHG goofed on this one.

I've played Lakopta two times now and each time I got hammered even though the other guy wasn't very good. Ok, so maybe I suck... otoh, maybe the Lakota do. So I did some figuring...

To get up to +70f/+70w food the Lakota need to spend 330 food (+12 citizens) or 325f/60w (city+7 citizens). Anyone else can do it with 219f/60w (city+5 citizens), but they get -40f in completion bonusses on the farms, so that's 179f/60w in reality.

              The next step is +100/+100.
To get there, anyone else usually builds +11 citizens, +1 city, +1 woodcamp, +5 farms. Total cost: 360f/360w
The lakota need +22 citizens, +1 city, +1 woodcamp. Total cost: 845f/60w.

Now, just to be sure I've timed this as well:

              Nubians:
              1:27 (+70/+70)
              3:13 (+100/+100)

              Lakota:
              2:47 (+70/+70)
              5:15 (+100/+100)

2 minutes! That's a lot of time. My guess is the enemy will have no problems making up for the 300w in those 2 minutes.

              regards,
              Ragnar Krempel

I didn't play with the Lakota yet. They're too exotic for my tastes.

However, I loooove the Iroquois, and their ability to heal in friendly territory. I've always thought the main weakness of RoN is that the player had to micromanage the healing of troops, unless he played with the French, or built Versailles.

Now, with the Iroquois, such doesn't happen anymore. Besides, the democratic patriots do really help with healing as well

                  Lakota is fun to play
I really hope BHG will give them more food income to make them better
Now it is hard to cap food without pyramids, but 200w and 200f for that is worth of it

Remember the food bonus for the Lakotais also generated by light Cav. and not just citizens!

I like the Lakota... they've got a very tough start, but they've got a very different gameplay...
And a bonus I like by them is the auto-raze of farms... whenever I take a city, I usually raze the farms (When I've got enough food), because for some reason unused buildings annoys me

I haven't played Lakota much yet, but my next CtW game will be with them (I believe)

The Dutch are the 'best' new nation though... with their +50 (of everything... over the limit) gives this nation a huge advantage... at the late game they can even get rid of all citizens, if they've got enough in stock...
This should have been max +25 instead... in my last CtW game I played as them, and the game was way too easy...

I've started the game now, and noticed one hell of a bug:

I just attacked England, who as a bonus card uses the "Enemy nations has no nation powers"... when playing as Lakota this is an instant lose because it doesn't give back normal powers... when the game starts I have the usual 3 farms, but I can't build farms or graneries, so for the rest of the game I've only got 3 farms

I want to see someone who can do this before I believe it can be done... the enemy has to be very dumb for it to be duable...
This space is empty... or is it?

                              You people are rooks

The Lakota are one of the most powerful nations during the classical - gunpowder age pediods.

First of all, the Lakota don't rely soley on food from their citizens in order to reach their commerce cap. It is your job to make sure your allie is spain or you have a good team of explores looking for rares. Also, one must hope that he is playing on a map with a lot of fishes so as to generate valuable wealth for raiders and food for citizens.

Also, with the Lakota, your whole point of playing is to raid the enemy until you can either gain an epoch lead or develope a small HI/HC army to take a city or two

You can not play the Lakota as you would a normal nation. They do not have any strong militaric or economical bonuses, so you really have to know your micromanaging skills well. In addittion, the Lakota raider group (CA/HC/Patriot) has to be active at all times, raiding mines/lumber/farms, trade routes, and merchants.

This is not a complacent civ, you are going to have to raid, raid, raid if you want a victory against a human or tougher AI.

Finally, I would challange ANYONE with the Lakota on a random land map versus any civ except the over powered America.

                              O-_-o
