  • Governments

I just found this on some RoN fansite:

    Classical:

Despotism: Government controlled by one tyrannical ruler with absolute powers.
Military research and Barracks units 25% cheaper.
Receive the Despot Patriot (a General who also provides supply, Line-of-Sight, and plunder bonuses).

    or

Republic: Government controlled by elected representatives who may (or may not) represent the will of the people.
    Commerce Limit increased by 50.
Receive The Senator Patriot (a General who also provides healing, bribing, and building defense bonuses).

    Gunpowder:

Monarchy: Government controlled by a single hereditary ruler.
Stable units are 25% cheaper and faster to build.
Receive The King Patriot (a General who also provides supply, siege, and mounted combat benefits).

    or

Democracy: Government whose rulers are elected by all citizens and represent the will of the people.
    Non-Library technologies 20% cheaper.
Receive The President Patriot (a General who also provides production, building, and healing benefits).

    Industrial:

Socialism: Government wherein production and distribution of goods are determined by equity rather than market principles.
Factory, Airbase, and Dock units 20% cheaper and faster to build.
Receive The Comrade Patriot (a General who also provides supply, combat, and assimilation benefits).

    or

Capitalism: Government wherein production and distribution of goods are determined by a free and competitive market.
Receive +100 Oil income and 500 Oil.
Receive The CEO Patriot (a General who also provides defense, range, and healing benefits).

It also say that when "shifiting" government, you keep the bonuses from the earlier governments also. When researching a special age, you get to chose from two governments...

I don't like the idea about the special unit, the different governments gives...

And here's another version of the different governments:

    Despotism:
    Cheaper Military research.
Increased line-of-sight for Scouts and Ships.
    Lowered Attrition Damage.
    Cheaper Infantry and Cavalry.

    Republic:
    Increased Commerce Limit.
    Increased Taxation rate.
    Cheaper Merchants and Caravans.
    Increased City Limits.
    Cheaper cost for all Wonders.

    Monarchy:
    Cheaper Military research.
    Increased National Borders.
    Cheaper Cavalry.
    Increased Food and Metal production.

    Democracy:
    Increased Commerce Limit.
    Increased Taxation rate.
    Produces Infantry faster.
    Cheaper Ships.

    Capitalism:
    Increased Commerce Limit.
    Increased Taxation rate.
    Ships and Aircraft produced faster.
    All Wonders cheaper.

    Socialism:
    Increased National Borders.
    All ground units cheaper.
All buildings produced cheaper (except Wonders).
    Enemy city assimilation faster.
This space is empty... or is it?

Despotism, Republic, Democracy and Monarchy are political systems, while Capitalism and Socialism are economical systems.
So does it mean economical systems begin only at industrial age ? How can we mix the both any ways ?

I just had a look in the rules files, and found this:

        Code:
        < SENATE_HP_BONUS value="35%" / >
        < SENATE_ARMOR_BONUS value="1 armor per city level" / >

Seems like they had the Senate idea from the beginning...

I take it from the above silence that nobody else wants naked men in Virtual World harnesses.

So, can you only choose to have one leadership type at any given time?

Dictatorship and democracy are NOT in the same choice bracket, it seems. So theoretically could you have a nation that goes Dictatorship/Democracy/Socialism?

Are governments supposed to be in an expansion pack or something? I have not yet seen this feature in RoN.

Forgive me, I haven't been keeping up to date on the news.

I do not like the idea of the special init either. Or at least the fact that it acts as a supply wagon. It reduces value of attrition, and supply wagons. It makes disadvantage for Russians, which is not compensated by other advantages.

It would be better if that unit only reduced attrition and did not act as a supply wagon for artillery.

                        I've been wondering that myself.

I've been disappointed more than once with expansion packs.

It went gold two weeks ago and is expected to hit the stores in the US this week (it'll take another 2-3 weeks for Europe and probably even longer for the rest of the world). If you're in the US, you may want to keep an eye out for it...
