  • S3 ProSavage8 graphics not compatible

hmmm... box reads check riseofnations.com for compatible cards. Behold... the site only lists those cards which have issues..NOT compatible cards. There is nothing compatible at all! All the cards have a issues of one kind or another.

I don't see mine listed "anywhere" so I run out and buy the game..install it...run it..then read..."This Video card is not supported for use with Rise of Nations".

I'd like to take this moment to thank the RON team for making the video issues so clear, especially the link to riseofnations.com to check for compatible cards,(ie M$ useless Knowledge base). Thanks for the link it was quite helpful.

Bottom line there are "no" compatible cards listed!
Only cards with "issues" like VooDoo cards and Nvidias,STB's and the like.

I can live with a non-compatible system. I'll just move on to another game..no real biggie. What I cannot deal with is spending money on game which with all the published data(or lack thereof) my system should run. Then get home and find out it won't run. This is called a ripoff. And taking a second look at the box and seeing Micro$oft published it, its all much more clearer now.

Why did you expect an video card from a defunt company to be supported. Upgrade the video card, as you'll find fewer and fewer new releases are compatible with that card. I don't think anything written for DirectX 9 or greater will work well with any S3 GPU based cards.

Look. Don't get pissed because your card isn't supported by every game in the universe.

The ProSavage8 is not a mainstream card and you can't possibly expect a playtesting team to examine every card ever made.

Your card is probably not compatable with Directx8/9 games so I wouldn't recommend trying to buy any others if this is the attitude you're going to have.

Why don't you go back to the store, return the game, and spend the $50 on a console where the games are guaranteed to work every time rather than wasting time *****ing on a message board for a game you aren't ever going to play. Or better yet, buy a better graphics card because frankly, yours sucks.

Here are some cheap $30 cards that as far as I know should work with RoN:

My rant was not about my card per se..but the statment on the box pertaining to compatible cards...following the given link and finding absolutely no cards listed as being compatible.

Why support stores with such a backwards policy?

Electronics Boutique has a money-back policy, IIRC.

Look for a file in your RoN directory called "BHGVidCardConfig.txt". Open that file and look for the videocard you have. There should be a line that looks like this:

                      drivers=notsupported

Change that to drivers=supported and it should start up.

BTW it is there and it is not supported

The game will run like that?

Thanks for the tip...anyhow..I put in a GeForce2 with the latest drivers and the game runs fine now.

Thanks all for the advice. Especially the DirectX 9 advice.

Yes I was a little tweaked by the foggy box requirements. But I was never angry about not being able to run the game...honestly. It was only the confusion with the requirements. I can always upgrade.

                            thanks.

I was just about to tell you that you can pickup a nice GeForce 4 with 128mb ddr ram over at newegg.com for just over $50. Obviously you were on top of it. Anyway, GeForce 2 is really good too and much better and more compatibly then your built in S3. I will probably be getting a new card soon myself. I am still running an old 32mb TNT2 and only had compatibility issues with one game, Battlefield 1942. Other then that, I have been able to run ANY and all of my games including all of the new RTS games with great performance. Also, Flight Simulator 2002 on max settings. At last RoN is a very good reason to upgrade your video card anyway so you done the right thing
