Keeping wonders safe

I seem to have trouble keeping my wonders once the ai starts hitting Modern and Information due to bombers.

I build plenty of SAM battery's around them but they still tend to get blown up.

Any advice on how to prevent this from happening?

dont just beuild SAMs around them, build them on the PATH the AI would take to them, ie, a line from your wonder to their airbases. you get more shots in that way.

also, having fighters scramble works better than SAMs

The "Battle of Britain" tutorial should show you how effective fighters are against incoming bombers too.

Build fewer wonders.

Bomb their airfields.

If you are under that much pressure by bombers, then build some of your own and bomb their airbases, with fighters for some air-to-air combat. Also, Uber Krux's idea works- helped me out my last game. Of course, you could solve your dilemma the easy way- don't let the comp reach modern age +.Hope this helps.

All the following:

Have an Airfield loaded with 3-5 fighters that are set on guard over the wonder (select the fighters then right click on the wonder).

A few (two or three) G2A Guns/Flak Cannons/SAMs on the path of the Bombers and around (it does work) of the wonder.

I've never lost a wonder with a defense like this.
Usually the AI will pick one wonder and throw everything at it, so once they do make sure and beef up that one's defense soon and repair it.

Plus try to have a Bunker nearby in the later ages as they can sneek up with about 5 commadoes and sabotage it to death. The Bunker reveals them and if you load it with a MG then it kills them also.

A patrol of fighters was the most effective deterrent in a game in which one computer decided to go and bomb everyone else's wonders at once. At the end of it all, my wonders were the only ones standing.
