  • Ships too Weak against Ground units?

Well? I just had a group of archers take out an industrial age destroyer. Cmon now, this isn't Civ (phalanx vs battleship)

Should this be fixed for realism? Or should it be left the way it is for balance?

I also witnessed some crossbowmen almost knock out two Information Age choppers. WTF?
To us, it is the BEAST.

In real life, a destroyer would lay waste to everything...but everything has got to have a weakness to keep the game balanced...in this case destroyers are weak against ground units.
Time to take out the trash. You know its easy but it seems harder every time you try and think about it.

Perhaps, to make up for the lack of realism, ship units could function similar to certain artillery units. A battleship, even a destroyer, should be able to bombard land units with greater efficiency than as designed.

What level are you playing? I still play mostly at moderate and I don't meet many crossbowmen in the information age.

I got Med age sail ships taking out my sub.

Game balancing or realism? How do this Med age sail ships spot my sub anyway?

Game balance requires absurdities like knights defeating tanks with swords; and with the rapidity of age advance I do not see any way around it. Makes it more like fantasy than history, though.

I wonder if perhaps an option could be put in which if selected would make the battles "get real" so that archers could no longer sink destroyers, modern fighters would no longer get shot down by biplanes and so forth. In reality, those with the higher tech weapons have the overwhelming advantage and I personally would like to have the option of seeing this reflected in the game play.

not to mention a sail boat sink a nuke sub and arrow shoot down jet. Also civilian still standing while take over ten cannon hit .

Ahh, the beauty of single player. I've been extensively editing the unit stuff to increase the differences between ages. Tis fun. And headache inducing... But I'm looking forward to the finished product

From what I have read (in the Strategy Guide??), there are already hardcoded advantages included when you have age-advantaged units. I'll try to pin down that source.

There are, I'm sure... but I like to tinker.

RoN Strategy Guide, Chapter 11: Advanced Tactics (this chapter was written by BHG producer Paul Stephanouk), page 174, 2nd para.; "Higher-aged units get a combat bonus when fighting earlier-aged units, and they usually having [sic] better combat stats."

Whether that advantage is 10% or 50%, we don't have any idea of course.

IMHO, battleships, as the "Bombard" ships, should do some good dammage against all ground targets save seige (which out range them anyway), and be vulnerable to air power and subs. That seems balanced to me.
