  • Nuke counter...

Has anyone started doing this? Do oil depravation raids be it with commandos or air raids or missiles against all possible oil patches you can find.

I have tried doing this after you hit industrial and that has worked reasonably well to keep the nukes under control. IMO, it is easeir to stop the oil going than to stop other things like food or metal. Oil is out in the open usually undefended. He may be able to buy his way to get the first nuke then he is stuck after his first with the embargo and stuff.

how about destroying universities ? Nukes require a lot of knowledge to be built. Chances are the AI has fewer universities than oil patches.

I always try to destroy their Universities first... that way it takes longer time, before they advance to next ages (and they are unable to build Nukes, since it also requires Knowledge)... I also tries to do this, when actually tring to take over the city, in case I fail the attack...
This space is empty... or is it?

Universities = juicy targets for cruise missles. One cruise missle destroys a university. Take out 2 or 3 of them, and knowledge production drops like a rock. Prevents nukes, prevents end game techs, etc.

then when you see them researching missle shield, click on the icon and it will center in on which library is doing the research. (if they have more than one) then send some missiles!

Haven't tested it, but I suspect it would only take one cruise missle to destroy a library also.

I did that once, destroyed all their Universities when I saw Missile Shield come up, but it still carried on researching. And I destroyed ALL their Uni's. Figured it's some kind of bug. Damn, wasted all my missiles too!!:

So I quickly got some Nukes (had Artificial Intelligence, so they were instantly there) & nuked the hell out of them then sent my force in.

Funny thing was, they still managed to complete their Missile Shield researce!!

BTW, after destroying their Uni's I also send in my fighters to take out their Scholars. Then, when they rebuild their Uni's (which they invariably do ), they'd have to create some more Scholars too, which becomes more & more expensive for them. A big 'dent' in their economy. Plus they don't usually build as many, thus reducing their income of knowledge even further. Then, when they've rebuild & restocked with Scholars, do it all over again, I love it ! !

You don't need scholar's/Uni's to be able to invent something... if you have enough knowledge, you can kill all your scholars/Uni's, while you'll still be able to invent new things... you only need scholar's to be able to afford new inventions... if you wanted to stop their invention, you simply had to destroy ALL their libraries...

Yeah, sorry, I meant Libraries . It was the Libraries I destroyed to try to stop their Missile shield, but It still continued researching (& I did destroy ALL of them ).

I still love going after their Scholars though
