  • fix for crash to desktop - works for me

    after having fiddled with several settings for the Bios, VGA and the soundcard, I decided to follow the advice of another poster and to enable the advanced graphics options through modification of the "rise2.ini" file; just look for the following value and set it from "0" to "1"

    EnableGraphicsToggles=1

    then within the game go to the graphics options panel and set all the advanced settings to "low"; if the game continues to crash, sorry, it must be something else...

    if, however, the crashes disappear then one can narrow down the problem by setting, say, five settings to high; (one can bring up the options menu while playing a game by hitting "F11"); if it does crash now it must be one of these settings; if it doesn't, one can set another five settings to high and so on, until one has singled out the graphic element(s) that is/are responsible for the crashes; in my case it turned out to be the "roads" setting, so now I have all settings on high except for this one and, alas, no more crashing

    hope that helps

          I had high hopes but it didn't work for me. First, I changed the SkipIntroMovies =1. That solved alot of hangups at start. There is no "EnableGraphicsToggles" in my rise2.ini so I wrote it in with 1. I set everything on low and it still crashed in the same spot.

          In Conquer campaign, I start an attack and it crashes while setting up the files. I get an abnormal program termination. Then I have to load the updated driver for my radeon 7000 again. Frustrating. I have 98se on this one

            my friends game also CTD'd and didnt want to get past main menu, he fixed this by going into the .exe properties and setting compatability to Windows2000, (he had wxphome)
