Hmm, I was just wondering if this is something that is being addressed in the next patch. Me and my friend are trying to play a Direct IP game, and around 15 minutes in we both get the "waiting for player" message, and then it disconnects us. Is there a way to fix this, or even maybe just increase the time of waiting to see if it will keep connected? Any help would be appreciated. My friend is on cable modem and hes hosting, and I am on dial up (56k). If you need to know my system stats let me know and I'll post them. Thanks.

IBM X22 Thinkpad mini-notebook, P3M-800, 384M RAM, W98SE, ATI Mobile Radeon M6 w/ 2M video RAM, DX 8.0a
Rise of Nations crashes while transitioning from the CTW strategic map to the tac battle. My guess is that it does a check for enough video RAM (I've already lowered details to 'low' in Options), and quits out if it doesn't detect the minimum. My workaround was to save the game before going into tactical, copy save game to my desktop which also has the game installed, run RON from remote via VNC and get into tactical, save, quit out and copy saved game back to my notebook.
The game periodically crashes during the strat-tac transition on my desktop as well. Changing the palette from 16- to 32-bit or back helped once, but not other times. I found that I have to vary something, like moving an army differently or using or not using a bonus card, to resolve the crash. Needless to say, I save VERY often, and the trial-and-error workarounds are frustrating.
