CtW - Sudden Death/Barbarian Horde on Tougher

I've won CtW on Moderate with 3 turns per age. And I'm in the process of winning CtW on Tough with 9 turns per age (currently 4 turn in Medieval age with 42% map control).

I've tried CtW on Tougher, and it seems impossible! I've tried the Barbarian Horde campaign twice and resigned after 6 minutes, and the Sudden Death campain seems even harder. On Tough I _barely_ win Barbarian Horde/Surprise Attack/Sudden Death campaigns. Especially in the former two I've won with my capital on less than 100 hitpoints when the 15 minute timer ran out.


Does anyone have any suggestions which can help me beat Barbarian Horde/Sudden Death campaigns? Either I'm doing something completely wrong, or these campaigns are really much harder than the regular Conquest campaigns vs actual nations.

by the way,

on the barbarian horde campaign I quickly go for a second city (for metal), build 1 or 2 towers, 2nd barracks and a stable. I make light cavalry to deal with the archers, and archers to deal with the pikemen, and pikemen to deal with cavalry and to be a buffer for the archers. Well that's what I try to do, usually I just lose my units before it has done any damage, because I get outmanned horribly.
