  • AI and Global Prosperity

...or what-ever that invention is called... I'm talking about that green invention you can get, when you have invented everything else in the library... the one that gives you stealth fighters...

Why does the AI always take that one as number one? Sure, it's a good one, but still... I'd prefer there to be some random choise there for the AI...

Hmmm... nobody else who has this problem?

Actually I think it's a pretty good tech to start with. You increase your commerce cap from 600(?) to 999, max out the pop cap (+50?).
Provided that the AI already maximizes its military production capicity the scientific future tech "AI" is no more than a luxury tech.
Provided that the AI's economy is very good, it's a logical decision to choose Global Prosperity over Missile Shield, since the potential +400 you get of each resource can easily offset the damage an occassional Nuclear attack does.

And personally I don't find World Government that useful at all (it wouldn't be my first future research), because the other future techs indirectly gives you a much better advantage on taking and holding cities.

So far I've only played vs an economically very strong AI in the Information Age (in quick battle I rarely beat them before modern age). And in that case it only seems to make sense to research Global Prosperity first, to me.

I wonder what other people's observations are, has anyone seen the AI researching other future techs first?

As I already mentioned, yes, that tech is pretty good, but still... it gets kinda annoying when that tech is ALWAYS the first tech they invent... I want some differences in the game, I don't want it to be the same always...

I understand what you mean, but on the other hand, we want the AI to play as good as possible.

Perhaps global prosperity (it's my first tech too, most of the time. That or Missile Shield) is overpowered and should be tuned down.

Yeah, or the others tuned up... maybe by adding -x% unit cost in the AI tech... and at the timer tech, you could add the possibility your anti-aircraft building/vehicle could get the ability to shoot down stealth bombers

being stealthy is the whole point behind those bombers. letting AA gain the ability (through upgrades, etc.) to shoot them down would just defeat the whole purpose.

Yeah, Stealth bombers are that because that's the point.

And I will always go for the AI first out of super-techs, unless getting pondered heavily by nukes.

The Stealth bomber is still stealth to those players who doesn't have that tech... that tech is still "crappy" afterall... Maybe the AA just doesn't have that much power against stealth bombers (Maybe it only does 50% damage, compared to how much damage it would have done, against normal planes)

If you don't like my ideas, try to come up with ideas, you think would be better... I'm just getting tired of it always ends the same way... By having 4 completely different (and expensive) techs at the end of the game, makes some interesting possibilities... but if they AI doesn't use those possibilities, then it's just pointless...

Wow ... in dozens of games vs the AI (moderate, then tough, just starting "tougher"), none of mine have gotten to this stage!

Well... I'm a peacekeeper... and I try to make the game take as long time as possible... and I'm playing moderate also...

Note that currently AA guns are very strong against planes. Only a few of these generally make you quite secure to air-strikes, so enemy will want ground troops to destroy AA guns.

Carch - I'm playing this baby a lot, trying different approaches. Currently I am trying and succeeding with the goal of beating Tough AI before the Industrial Age.

the 'AI' tech is more useful for human players than the computer AI because it saves a lot of time managing all your military buildings. But the computer AI seems to do a good job with that, and with a strong eco I'd definately go for global prosperity.
