autosave? how? when?

i see that there is an autosave folder is the "load save" option within the game and there are references to it, including a "1" switch on "useautosave" (or something similar) in one of the ini files but...

after numerous solo games, all of which have frozen my PC, requiring a hard boot, some lasting as long as a couple hours before the freeze, I find ***0*** saved games in the autosave folder.
searches on multiple forums, including this one, I find only one thread with any reference at all to autosave and it provides hardly any info on how/why/when autosavng takes place...

can anyone provide this info? is this a bug? normally I wouldnt really care, but since the game freezes every time I play it I would like to have the autosave option... (yes, I know I can save manually)

As far as I know the game only autosaves during the campaign. It won't save Quick Battles, so save often when you play a Quick Battle and the game is unstable on your system.
