  • Costumizing Infantry Units

I have several ideas, which I don't know how to fulfil.

First, I was thinking of creating unique infantry lines.

Instead of usual light / heavy / ranged lines, I thought of:

    rangers, para, marine.

the rangers would autmoatically have some of the abilities that the general has (entrench, ambush)

the paratroopers can obviously paradrop (which appears not to exist in the game... yet)

and the marines would be the only ones able to attack from the sea, like all units do now. The rest would have to fit into transport ships, and will not "transform" automatically.

Now, any ideas about how do I do that?

    hello there...

no one has any idea how to implement this?

not even response if this is a good/ bad idea??

Well, since every unit becomes it's own ship at sea, the marines are kind of redundant.

It would be cool to see paratroopers, and perhaps have a civ have special forces that could fight normally (in fact, I think a United States side with Delta Force units or something would be accurate and cool)

Well Delta force isnt really that large a contingent, I means its a group within the Special Forces branch, that specializes in anti-terrorism and hostage situations. So its not really large enough for a separate unit in my opinion nor really fit into a large scale nations game like RoN, and the Special Forces in RoN already covers that adequately. A larger organization like the Army Rangers maybe ok for something like RON possibly as a unique unit. (although the post WW2 organization were modelled after british commandos)
        Are you down with ODV?

That's exactly it. I don't think it's such a good idea, and I want to know of ways to change that, and include a transport ship.

Or at least, make the rest of the troops take a minute "packing" and "unpacking", while marines don't have that penalty.

The thing is, I think that changing the way marine attacks are made (making it tougher), and then adding my 3 unique units could enhance the way games are played in modern times.

I also think that it would fit nicely with the CIV mod people talk about

The best idea I've heard for balancing naval is to require that units be in X radius of a friendly dock to embark.

I have no idea if that's possible using the existing XML structure, but I'd be really surprised. It doesn't seem that flexible.

but how do I give that ability to a unit?

and how do I limit the packing unpacking thing to only a single troop, and make new unit - transports. ?

You could make the marines swim in an out of the water(in order to make them swim you could use a new transport that looks exactly like the marine). When they are in the water they can swim up to boats and place a bomb on it causeing severe damage to the boat. Also when in the water the marine could be cloaked.
