  • Lookout - 2 Range Rings?

When you select a Lookout and place the cursor over the Range icon, two range rings appear: a dark one for a range of 5 (the Range value), and a light one for a range greater than 5, like 9 or 10. I know the dark ring represents attack range (even though Lookouts can't attack), and assume the light one represents LOS range (maybe useful for placing detection zones for spies?). Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks!

The outer ring is the line of sight, as you suspected. The inner ring is attack range. Lookouts turn into anti-air guns later in the game, thus they can attack air units. What's interesting is that they are actually anti-air guns all along. I've had games where I reached the Industrial age and came at the enemy with biplanes, while he was still an age or two behind. Even so, his lookout towers fired little arrows at my planes and damaged them. Not very realistic, but probably better balanced. It wouldn't be fair to have no chance at all against planes if you get behind in tech.
Firaxis - please make an updated version of Colonization! That game was the best, even if it was a little un-PC.

I disagree maybe an arrow can hurt a low flying byplane but p51 mustang or F-16 noway. A little bit of realism should be allowed. An airforce should devaste ancient foot soldiers

Sorry, but give me gameplay over realism any time... although if you can have both, it's best.

pmaura, if your sending jets at him and he doesn't have even industrial, why is he still alive? Who cares if a little arrow hurts your jet, just send in the 50 others you have and finish him off.

I dunno I recently bombed a medieval aged opponent and was SHOCKED at the damage done compared to my bombers use against a modern opponent. ONE run of an 8 plane wing literally blew away his university, city, three farms, and anyone standing nearby was severely hurt.
