mousewheel problems

Somehow I can't get the game's zoom function to work on the wheel of my Logitech Dual Optical mouse.

Anyone having similar problems? The configuration of my Logitech shouldn't be the source of the problem as my mousewheel works perfect when I'm not playing the game.

Good news: You are not the only one. I have the same problem with my Logitech.
Bad news: I can't work out how to fix it.

I've tried reconfiguring it in all manner of different ways and nothing works. Weirdly, it VERY occasionally responds to movement of the wheel but only once, and then it stops.

It's driving me nuts. In particular, I want to change the density of unit formations, and there's no hotkey workaround. And it's about the only flipping thing which there ISN'T a hotkey for!

Have you tried it with a different mouse? (I don't see why you'd have a spare one knocking around, I don't!)

I have a Logitech Mouseman Optical (cordless), and it works fine. One idea: what number of lines do you have the scroll wheel set to (It's in the mouse controll pannel)? Mine is on three. Also, what happens when you go to the hotkey settings and remap the zoom to the mousewheel?

Thanks for the suggestion, although I've tried changing all the settings for the scroll wheel (from "none" all the way up to "screen"), and fiddled with the settings for the mousewheel button (just in case that was upsetting it) and nothing seems to work.

I haven't tried remapping the zoom functions, but I know that PgUp and PgDn don't work for changing the formation density - if you right click (to bring up the 'ghost formation'), then press PgUp or PgDn they still work as zoom keys. So I'm not sure remapping would work. Maddeningly, 'Change formation density' doesn't even appear in the list of functions in the option menu, so you can't remap the function to keys - it seems to be about the only function for which this is the case.

This is a real problem - after all, it's a fairly important function. Sometimes I want my archers to advance in a pike-protected box formation, not just a great big line where they'll be mown down by cavalry, the fools.

I'm now thinking I'll need a new mouse before I can play this game properly - even though there's plainly nothing wrong with my current one. Hmm. Any other ideas?

I figured out a solution. Problem is that Logitech mouse software is running in the background when playing RoN. It's this program that prevents use of the zoom wheel function. Finish the running Logitech program (EM_EXEC.exe) with ctr-alt-del and you will be fine.

Cheers matey. I also managed to get it to work by turning off the scroll function altogether in Control Panel. Bizarrely, this makes it work fine in RoN, probably for a similar reason to the one you mentioned.
