  • Poll: FPS and your system

Though we might do a quick poll to see how fast/slow this game runs on a wide variety of systems. Post you system and average FPS.

    My PC is a:
    P4 1.6
    512 RAM
    40 Gig HD
    NVidia GForce 4 MX

    FPS: Max Graphics Settings
18 - 20 at the start of the game
10 FPS when there are battles

Movement is often very jerky and hard to watch. Do I need to upgrade?

    P4 2.4
    512MB
    GeForce4Ti 4600

Hovers around 28FPS on the medium resolution setting at 32bit, all graphics options on.

      P4 2.4
      512 RAM
      55 GB Hard Drive
NVidia GForce 4 MX (64 mb)

Running game at 16 bit color (slight improvement noticed), Max Graphical Settings.

      30 at start
20 during mid-game battles - only slight slowdown
10 during info age - most movement is still smooth
7 - 8 during info age combat and nuclear exchanges - units appear jerky

        Audigy II SoundCard
        P4 2,0
        512 RAM
        60 Gig HD
        NVidia GForce 3 Ti500

        1280x10214x32 Resolution, maxed graphics settings.

        FPS: Max Graphics Settings
37 at the start of the game
28 FPS when there are battles

By the way, for us to be able to compare these things we need to know the resolution as well! Otherwise, how can we compare the FPS?

I change my system around very frequently for testing, but at this moment:

              Intel P4 2.5
              1GB RAM
              SB Audigy
              RADEON 9700 PRO

              ~50 FPS with vsync=1
              100+ FPS with vsync=0

Personally I can't tell the difference in FPS values over 25 in RON (unlike first-person shooter games).

                896MB DDR RAM
Diamond Monster Sound MX300 (Nice warning ingame, BTW)
                Geforce 4 Ti 4200

I get about 70 FPS - dunno if vsync is on, but I maxed out the settings at 1280x1024x32

                  P3 733
                  256 RAM
                  GEForce 256

My system is a little older, but well above the minimum requirements.

I average 20 FPS when there is are no major combats on-screen.

The battles really slow things down, to around 10 FPS. If I put the detail to High, I get around 4 FPS during these battles. This is for the entire game up to the Modern age in a 1v1 scenario.

Anything beyond the Modern age is unplayable. The game simply crawls with the typical number of units on-screen.

What does "minimum requirements" mean? Should the entire game be playable (and fun) with the minimum requirements, even when the graphic detail is set to Low?

                    768MB of DDR ram
                    'old' geforce 1 (sdr ram)
averages around 20 FPS, drops to 10/12 during battles.
                    (default high settings)
Looks like the processor is NOT the most important thing here.

EDIT: forgot the word - NOT - (again )

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

On the contrary, looking at the results above clearly show processor speed does not matter as much as on-board system RAM seems to.

It seems newer video cards are doing well also.

128MB of RAM is barely enough to run windows properly, tassadar.

indeed. I have 256 (Win XP) and the game is slow during big battles. BTW, is it possible to set the resolution to 800x600 in the retail version?
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

                            runs normally, although jerks sometimes.

Hmm. Not having any jerking (except for after I load a saved game for 3-5 seconds) with me 1.7 GHz and 512 RAM machine.
