  • I don't get how to upgrade on GameSpy

I hesitate to post this question and proclaim my ignorance to the world, but how do you get the patch?

Using the GameSpy shortcut conveniently placed on my desktop after installing the game, I registered for the free GameSpy Arcade account. After logging on/in, I saw places where players could hook up for games. I allowed GameSpy to search my computer for games I could play online, and it found RoN. I think that’s how I got into the RoN lobby. I didn’t, however, play a game online.

I didn’t see any automatic install of a patch while online, nor did I see a place where I could go to start the patching process. I got the impression that the patch would automatically install once I registered and/or accessed GameSpy Arcade. As an aside, I did see that for a small monthly/yearly fee, I could register for some sort of auto-upgrade feature. But it will be a cold day in hell before I pay a fee to access a patch for a game.

Since I’m fairly confident that I don’t have to pay GameSpy to get access to the patch, I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Is there something I should be doing in the game to get the patch? Am I not going to the right place while online?

Or should I just back away from my computer before I hurt myself?

    Help!

The term "gamespy" is causing a lot of confusion around here. Does one mean the website, the Arcade application that comes with RON, or the in-game matchmaking system *inside* RON that is powered by Gamespy? In my personaly conversations I try to avoid confusion by referring to Gamespy Arcade as "arcade" and the RON in-game matchmaking as "in-game".

So to answer your question, the patch is auto-downloaded when you access the in-game matchmaking. Just run RON, go to Multiplayer, and go to (Gamespy) matchmaking.

    Hope that clears things up.

Thanks Paul. I was confused, but now I am patched.

      Cheers!
