  • How to play Bonus cards?

The game says I will be given an opportunity to play them after clicking the start button. I am never am though. Occasionally I will see a display before a battle telling me how many armies are involved, and empty spaces on each side showing what cards have been played. Its damn annoying.

And, I have bonus cards, I have won them and purchased some as well.

Also, how do you get wonders in the CTW mode?

From my extremely limited experience with CtW (30 minutes last night), I noticed two different kinds of bonus cards. Some were marked as Tactical cards, and these were the ones that you could play at the start of a battle. Others were marked as Wonder cards, and these you could play from the main world map screen to build a wonder in one of your territories. I wouldn't be surprised if there are other types of cards as well. But if you didn't get the option to play any cards at the start of the battle, then you probably didn't have any Tactical cards.

Have you gotten the patch? I read in another thread that part of the patch deals with a card bug in CTW.

I had like 5 cards. None that had anything to do with Wonders, so all of them seemed like tactical cards. Stuff like get 5% more metal for one battle, your units take no attrition damage for one battle, etc.

I havent got the patch yet, I dont play multiplayer so I wont until its a direct download. I did actually try to get it and the game locked up my machine when it tried to hit Gamespy. Probably because of Zonealarm, but still, annoying they didnt test with that.

Anyway, is there anyone who has been able to play bonus cards in CTW w/o the patch, or even with the patch?

            Ahhh.

There should be two rows before the scenario, the top is your current cards and below is where you MOVE cards from up top that you want to play for this battle. Realize that they're usually one shot deals so use them wisely. Out of the 30-40 cards only a couple can actually be played once IN the scenario/skirmish, but I have no idea yet how that works.

What he said. You actually have to drag the cards from the top to the bottom, as I recall. Just clicking on them doesn't do it.

The manual is sorely, sorely lacking in all areas, but especially in CtW. It really tells you next to nothing about how to play it.

Hmm I will have to play closer attention. When you say before a scenario, do you mean on the world map or on the little briefing screen that pops up after you have hit start on the world map and shows you how many armies are participating and all that?

                Thanks

The "briefing" screen - not the world map. It's after you click Start.

When you click on START, depending on the type of battle you are playing, you will have the opportunity to play your tactical cards.

However, early in thew games, the scenario types usually are not the type you can play cards in.

There are essentially 3 types of battles.

1: Barbarian Scenario. You are attacking a Barbaian Nation that is unclaimed.(Barbarian Rally, Field Batle,Barbarian at the Gates, Sudden Death, Melee, Wheel and Deal) - CARDS CANNOT BE PLAYED HERE.

                    2. Conquest Scenario. You are attacking(or being attacked by) a Nation held territory and the battle type is Conquest. - TACTICAL CARDS CAN BE PLAYED HERE.

                    3. Non Conquest Scenario. You are attacking(or being attacked by) a Nation held territory and the battle is NOT Conquest(Surprise Attack, Tactics, Ambush)

I understand this is a bit confusing, but hopefully this will clear things up a bit.
