Is it possible to bookmark places [ = my cities ] on the map?

Is it possible to cycle through my cities?

The reason I ask is that I haven't found a way of doing it
    [ I've tried crtl + Y but nothing happens].

This causes the problem of one of my cities [ not a major miliary one ] being attacked whilst my main miliatry units are in other cities. So I lose valuable time using the main or mini map trying to locate and center on my "military" cities trying to get them to send units to the city being attacked.

Now I guess you'll just say that I have to have lots of military units in each city, but is that really necessary? What's the minimum military strength I need per city?

Im not at my computer right now, but try pressing numbers 1-9. I think the numbers are in the order you put the citys down. Also, this may well not work if you bind you armys to the numbers, just use f1- etc for your armys instead.

You can bookmark locations on the map using the control keys, it's the same as making control groups, only don't have anything selected.

the 'C' key cycles through cities.

By pressing C once, you cycle through to the next city, by 'double-pressing' C (quickly pressing it twice), you zoom to it.

Using control works as well: once you made the hotlink, press once to select and twice to zoom to the city, just like with armies.

You can also press tab to cycle through all buildings that techs can be researched at.

              Many thanks for these replies.

I think my problem is that I have to press the keys very hard [ harder than usual for a PC game ], but both the C and crtl + bookmark do work - just not as easily as I'd expected.
