  • Nice DEMO!

    im back!
    anyone miss me?
    anyone know me?
i registered when first heard about RoN!
proposed some ideas and lay low for a year or so.
but im back now wnyone know where that latvian dude went?

    anyway,
i downloaded the demo and liked it, quite impressive.
but there is one thing i dont like and that is the pop limit.
its only 200, we had that in age of empires and that was made for PC's for 4years ago.
can we have some progress please?
maybe increase the pop limit to 400 atleast.
i cant have an army bigger than 80-85 units and that sucks.

    Re: Increasing the pop limit.

You'll be able to increase it to anything you like in the release version by editing one of the text setup files and changing a couple of lines. This apparently doesn't work in the demo version (but I'd love to be proved wrong about that!).

Why would you need more than 200? I almost never hit the limit in the game because by the time i get near it i'm in a battle every 5 minutes. And why does more pop limit = good thing? You make it sound like the only reason we had a pop limit of 200 in AoE is because computers couldn't handle 250+. Pop limit is a strategic tool. Do you want a lot of the less useful units or a few of the very useful units? That's the tradeoff.

Pop limit is more of an issue in games where more workers=more resources.

Yeah this demo brings alot to the table. That is because it really is a Trial version. I always see Trial versions as offering a little more then a demo. I think there is a difference there. Anyway I hate TONS of units everywhere so I like the 200 pop limit. Its too hard to keep up with more units then that.

well the reason why i want the pop limit increased is because i like playing with huge armies and a lot of support units.
eg. i would rather like a big airforce with a big navy and a few aircraft carriers to reflect reality rather than just sit on my ass with a few MBT's and soldiers and get mowed down everytime i invade a city. i mean the size of your army is probably the only real advantage in the game because by the end almost everyone gets the same units and tactics are quite crude.
i like nuking cities, i like firebombing cities, i like overunning civilians with T80's!
              give me more pop!

At the end of my last game I was able to attack with over 20 modern infantry, 10 tanks, 10 missile artillery and a bevy of air forces. That seemed to be just about as much as I could handle at one time.

Well, s_qwert63 will be able to get what he/she wants it just won't be an out of the box feature.

I'm ok with the 200 unit limit.

Is this based from the Golden Build?

                    Hey Gang,

This has got to be one of the boldest demos I've seen in years! They're actually giving you pretty close to the full game with 4 of the game's nations!

When you think about it, this is a heck of a lot more than some full commercial released RTSs released within the last few years.

Here's my question, however, in trying to pair it all down to a downloadable size did they possibly leave out some sounds or frames of animation? It looks and sounds nice enough but I'm just wondering if the retail version will be more optimized or in any way different at least regarding the four nations the demo is representing?

There could be any number of things- usually lower quality sound- perhaps some graphics options, though that's not likely. By omitting all but 4 of the nations, they saved space on art, sounds, etc

The max pop limit in the beta test was 300, but that was plenty. Remember, infantry units come in sets of 3, so your armies look quite full.
