  • Expanded & Infinite Population Limit Mod

***This mod was made using the Gold version and may not work with the demo.***

    Expanded Population Mod:

For those who want a little more breathing room on the population limit. The population limit now doubles as you research each military technology, up to 3200.

    Military 0: 25 Pop Limit
    Military 1: 50 Pop Limit
    Military 2: 100 Pop Limit
    Military 3: 200 Pop Limit
    Military 4: 400 Pop Limit
    Military 5: 800 Pop Limit
    Military 6: 1600 Pop Limit
    Military 7: 3200 Pop Limit

    Infinite Population Mod:

For those who don't want the population limit to bother them during play. The population limit is now set at 99999 regardless of the technology.

    Note:

This mod may drastically reduce performance.

    Installation:

Simply download the file and extract either the Expanded or Infinite Pop Limit mods to your data directory located in the folder where you installed the game. Make sure to back up the rules.xml and help.xml files before using this mod.

For those who want to modify the population limit to their own custom preferences, here's what you do:

Make sure you have a xml editor, I recommend this one:

A strictly validating, near WYSIWYG, DocBook editor, DITA editor, MathML editor, XHTML editor, XML editor, aimed at technical writers. Because XMLmind XML Editor is highly extensible, it may be also be used to create documents conforming to your own custom schema.

Next open up the rules.xml file located in your data directory where the game is installed. About 1/6th of the way down( the search function doesn't work too well for some reason.. ) you'll find a title called "POP_CAP" with 7 entrys with numbers, each entry corresponds to each military technology. Simply edit these and save the file. You can also change the population cap when you select the options for a quick battle, but I don't think it's necessary. To do this scroll about 4/5ths of the way down the rules.xml file until you find a title called "poplimits" and "population" in blue boxes, below them are 6 entrys, each corresponding to the population limit options, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, and 200. Make sure to edit both the name and the value on these. I also edited the help.xml file so that when the help popup comes up it displays the proper values, you don't need to change these though.

    Any problems let me know..

Crash to desktop -- right when it is starting up to the "Trial" screen it crashes.

About the gold version. As far as I can judge, the xml files will be put into some archives, sort of .bar or something files. Then, someone will need to get an extractor from that, then edit the xml and put it back...

I just meant the trial version CTD, I don't have Gold at all. I wish I did...

But actually, I am building my new 2.4 Ghz with 1 Gig of DDR and a GeForce 4200 TI...compared to my Dell 667 384 Ram with a GeForce 2...I'm glad I don't have GOld yet...it'll be my first new game with my new computer!

its up to you, but don't forget that this modding will kill some civs, ressources & wonders "raison d'etre"; peacocks, colossus and Bantu for example...
