I don't think it's particularly bad news for BHG. They will have known this would happen.

well this kind of thing is expected. especially with a public beta etc. but the way most companies beat that is to release a patch that kills the crack from being able to play online.
So patching isnt just about debugging and balancing the game, but to deter piracy.Are you down with ODV?Comment

Nope. The old crack doesn't work with a patched version, but after there is a patch, a new crack generally becomes available within 24 hours.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator
