One quick note: there IS a discount for x5 (5%) and x10 (10%) production. What's unfortunate is that the planet AI never chooses this, even when building cheap things like ground troops.
If I'd known then what I know now, I'd never have done all the stuff that led me to what I know now...

      Damn Straight!

I chose the X5 to build a pack of super dreadnoughts, thinking that I wouldn't have to keep going back to the planet every three turns to tell it to build another. 15 Turns later I finally get my ships! Can that priority screen somehow tell the planetary governor to stop building my latest scout ship and concentrate on capital starships?

You didnt want to micro- so here you go! The AI does it for you. I bet this will shed a new light on the necessity of micromanagement.

First did you know in the 1930's the US navy only want to built battleship's first and then cruiser's and then destoryer but didnot want to built PT boat's it was the President FJR who order the relunt navy to built PT's boat. It is very service idear to built what it consider inportance to it image and to poject power. To all Navy the Battleship was the glammer weapon to be built above all elso. The British Navy didnot have than enought Destoryer built to fight the U-boat
in the beginning of the war show that you need than balance forces. The game is adding in element of real life where you must countercommand the people under you all the time. The British Navy built many battleship.

ROFL ChalessBHoff. Your spelling is just amazing. No really. I dont mind it at all. Its fun to read your articles.

Anyway, point taken. Having only the largest available ships is not very effective (read cost efficient). Sometimes you just need to get rid of pirates, or intercept those pesky colony ships.... small hull ships will do.

What I tried to say (using a sarcastic tone ) was that there is no way the AI will build exactly what you want, so you'll end up microing it anyway.....

In wars, coutries build mainly smaller ships, because they don't have time. So if you'll count tonage and amount of ships you'll come to very interesting data.
Ship disign in MOO3 is somewhat broken, however.

When our battleship in Pearl Harbor where badly damage or sunk by airpower. In the South Pacfic it was the PT boat that kept the Jap Battleship from moveing nearer the shore to bombard our maine on the Island we took on Japness control. It was the PT boat that protect our convery moveing
in the Pacfic ocean and move Mac Auther our of the Philippines to Australia . We didnot move more PT boat to the Philippines as it was than lost cause as Jap have 250,000 troop ashore already and we move our PT boat and light cruiser out of the Philippine before they fell. The speed of the PT boat with it ability to change it position and formation quickly was it armour.

                          It was "interesting".

But I should return to the MOO3. Do you rememer ECM I and so on? It took so much space to make small ships really reasonable.

They didnot have computer control guns or any computer aid
in aimming gun yet . There where some computer aid anti-aircraft fireing aiming in Germany but it was only in the large network as the computer weight a few tons and use up one huge wharehouse arera in volume. The capital ship have only quick fireing dural use (anti-air and anti-small ship) gun of 3 inches bore size. The gunner have to guess the distance and speed of target an hope one of the shells it shoot at 30 shells amimutes hit it target. The wooden hull of the PT boat doesnot show up on radar too well even today back then it didnot show up at all on radar so than radar rangefinder was useless.

The idear of the PT boat was the idear of some officer who say that than fast and hightly maneuverable boat doesnot need heavy armour to protect it while fireing it two torp at the capital ships.

                                Computers in WW2

Sure they had computers. First mechanical, then primitive electrical. I believe the Iowa class BBs had fairly sophisticated fire control computers.

The proximity fuses you refer to were highly classified but used on bombs, then artillery shells (in the West).

In the Pacific, they were used much more extensively for AA since there was much less chance of the Japanese picking up a dud shell of the bottom of the ocean.
