  • MOO3 Tournament Opens - RBMoo Imperium

Realms Beyond is opening our MOO3 tournament this week. The Imperiums will mirror our long-running and successful Civ3 tournament, the Epics. The tourney rules are pretty simple.

The most important rule is NO SPOILERS. No info of any kind is to be posted about games in progress, until they are closed and report day comes around. We are very strict about this rule, so please observe it dilligently.

The other urgent rule is no reloads. This rule has a little bit of flexibility to allow for things like crashes and misclicks, but the spirit of the rule is clear and we expect participants to adhere to it. MOO3's phases and saved game structures don't lend well to using lots of reloading as a crutch anyway, but still this rule is important to understand up front.

All players are welcome to participate. There are no prerequisites and no preconditions. You will have to use a specific version of the game, including the applicable mod for the first tournament event. Instructions for how to comply are available.

The opening tournament game uses the new Data Patch with slight modifications to account for known issues. The Galaxy is a large two-arm with ten opponents. You play as stock Tachidi, starting on the rim, outside the senate. All victory conditions are enabled. There are two additional rules (restrictions) that you must observe, and these are listed on the event page.

Although MOO3 properly demands the fixes and enhancements promised in the upcoming Code Patch, we believe most of the worst problems are related to the User Interface. The strategic issues have been addressed to some degree by the Data Patch (along with the few fixes added in our mod), at least enough to allow a tournament game to be entertaining. Future events post-patch will no doubt be much higher quality, but that will be due not only to patched improvements, but also to breaking ground on the players' end with figuring out what makes for good reporting and meaningful issues of comparison between results.

Let me now invite you to participate in RBMoo Imperium One, "The Hives of Xoth".

Realms Beyond has a storied history of tournament events for Civ3, which you are welcome to check out Here. You can see the kinds of events, reports, players, and traditions we have built up over time. The RBCiv discussion board can be found Here. We had our 26th Civ3 Epic tournament close just today, and reports are coming in now.

Those of you new to RB, welcome! We hope you'll enjoy your visit to our community and that some of you will decide to join in on the fun. We look forward to your contributions.
