  • Orbital Defence Platforms

Aside from ground based defences or Ships, the best way to defend a planet is to build a Defence Satellite. You can build them very much like you would build a starship. I have at least 2 D. Sats on new worlds and five on fully developed worlds. On my homeworld I have 2 Missile Sats, 2 Carrier Sats, and a long range weapons Sat. Satellites may take a while to build but they are the most effective form of deffence if you have no available ships in the system... Try it out...
Everytime I learn something new it pushes something old out of my head.

I'd love it if the AI actually attacked these orbital bases though

The problem with getting a decent orbital platform in a border system is one cannot move them using mob centres. Orbitals are quite strong, but getting them in place is a logistic disaster.

and they often are outdated when they get attacked. because of high research speed offense is the best defense in this game.

          Outdated Platforms

          Question,

Assuming the AI gets patched to where the AI will actually attack you, would carrier orbitals always have the most updated fighters or would they have fighters based on the tech at the time they were designed.

No, they won't. Too bad them's space ships and don't get automatic updates. However, the patch may add updating outdates ship.

              Hmmm

I can almost understand the unrefittability of the orbital platforms, but the fighters should be updateable.

Anyway, I wouldn't hold my breath that the patch will create marvelous changes. It looks like MOO 3 sales aren't going to warrant much further investment by IGMOO.

IMHO, platforms are useless. All you have to do is build a mobilization center and you can summon a defensive fleet anytime.

That is of course a very silly concept. How the hell did that dreadnought get halfway acros the galaxy in one turn?!!?

                  I agree

It's not very realistic you summon a ship from anywere at any time in a mob center, and if the enemy run behind you with a monster fleet in neutral land, you can easlily disband your fleet, the new orions love to do that and i hate it, hey Moo3 developers you could do a lot better, remenber i payed a lot of money i wanna a realistic game, or i will sell my copy and buy galactic civilization, a great game, i cant wait to buy it
