  • How to mod research speed?

    I tried looking for the specific mob/txt file which does this but couldn't find it. Can someone please point me to the right file? (excluding GUI editors)

    In TechTables.txt is a table called Techfields. Three numbers at the end are Research_Cost_Multiplier, Research_Cost_Exponent_Base, and some unknown variable that's not titled.

    If you change the first (multiplier) from 81.30081301 it will give you a level change in your costs. I hate hi-speed tech develoipment and want a game where every tech advance matters, so I use 2500 here.

    If you change "Exponent" (1.23) you change the curve - making the cost of each subsequent level greater and greater. Don't tweak this too drastically (eg keep it in the 1.x range) - it quickly creates a mountanous curve youre tech boys won't overcome.

      Many thanks!

      Another question - I modded some things in techtable but it does not seem to affect the game. For example I gave hull sizes (cost and space) but the orignal values still stays. Is there something else I should do?

        Not sure if I'm answering your question here, but:

        If you change the Tag_Values, for example:

        "ShpCpcty = 50, SystCost = 100, UseGraph = 1"

        changing to

        "ShpCpcty = 100, SystCost = 200, UseGraph = 1"

        the change should take effect as long as you have saved the techtables.txt file in the folder

        \Master of Orion 3\GameDataSets\Classic_01\GameData\Common\Spreadsh eets\

        You do have to create that folder.

        If, on the other hand, you mean the change doesn't show in the description, you'll have to go over to the "English" folder and make some changes to the wstrings files and place them in

        \Master of Orion 3\GameDataSets\Classic_01\GameData\English\wString s\

        Hope I got close to the answer you're looking for
