  • alternative, easy to use and remember race names?

    if you asked me now what's the name of the race i'm allied too in my current game, i couldnt answer or i would have 50% of it wrong/mispelled (at best)

    can we come up with some easier names? the reds, the nicks, that sort of thing

    I posted this on the IG-moo boards, but here's what I'd like to see:

    Instead of just the emperor's name for empires, say something like Rashakinar.

    Have it say: Rashakinar (Ithkul)

    I'm betting that will require a patch though

    Oh and having to go to the diplo screen everytime I see an empire mentioned in the sitrep and click on every leaderhead until I see the right name is driving me nuts too :P

      Psilons = Big Heads
      Cynoids = Johnny 5

      Those were the names I came up with.
      I never know their names, But i smile just the same

        I can see what I can do. I believe all of those are strings in the strings.mob, but haven't looked. Shouldn't be too hard, unless the empire names aren't specific for what race they are.

        Then, it might be basically impossible.

          What I don't get is why the races have to be given empire names. I adds some variation, I'll give you that. But I would still like to do diplomacy with the Trilarians, and not the Leetri empire. Or the Meklar, and not the BV-123-TG-I342 or whatever it is they're called.

          Im not sure what Baruk Khazad is , but if they speak Judeo-Dwarvish, that would be "blessed are the dwarves" - lord of the mark

            Because there can be (and often are) more than one trilarian empire in a game. Or more than one XXX in a game.

              That's what you get from playing with only 5 races while you're learning the game. Thanks for the info, kalbear

                Best I can tell empire names are generated algorithmically (hard coded that is) and can't be modified.

                Closest thing I've been able to come across in the data files is the leaders.txt file in misctext.mob (in the common folder, not english), but I believe that has to do with leader leaders not empire leaders.

                  at least we should see the empire name and race under each image in the diplomacy screen, and not to have to click a leader image to see it

                    I'm agreeing with Markos on that one.

                    One of the greatest sources of confusion I have in this game is when a senate bill is proposed by Gobligoop to condemn Whatchamacallit for their crimes. I have to go look up which race calls itself Gobligoop today and which race calls itself Whatchamacallit today in order to figure the situation out.

                    That I find that there are 2 Klackon empires, one which calls itself Gobligoop and the other which calls itself Kobligoop only makes matters worse...

                    (no kidding... I had a game where two Klackon empires had seemingly exactly the same name other than the first letter... thrown in with a dozen other names that don't necessarily have any relation to the race, map color, or empire symbol because NONE of those appear in senate bills, and your confusion is complete!)

                      I don't have a problem keeping track of my neighbours. That goes double for the other human civ in my game. It is very strange to see 'me' speaking Russian to me in diplomacy.

                        Try having the Meklar and the Cynoid together... XM3623097934 or XZ4798235... a little confusing, yeah?
